SF Bay Hiring Update: Lufthansa Love Fest, HP Hiring more than Google & Why You May Want to Think In the Box

May 11th, 2011

Did you miss “Lufthansa German Airlines Day” yesterday? The City of San Francisco toasted Lufthansa in “honor of the first regularly scheduled commercial Airbus 380 flight to enter the city.”

The two story plane – the world’s largest – has 526 seats and will increase the number of people visiting San Francisco by hundreds—if not thousands. “The fleet upgrade will lead to 1,300 direct and indirect jobs in San Francisco, Board of Supervisors President David Chiu said, and generate $100 million in revenue annually.”

Look for jobs in tourism, hospitality and operations—all industries that pick up with more foot traffic. Here are 300 job listings already, 70 postings of which have a salary estimate of $100K and above.

Here are other places to look in and around San Francisco.

  • In the Box. Box.Net is ranked as one of San Francisco’s Fastest growing companies and best places to work. They’ve announced plans to expand their workforce from 40 to 240 by year’s end. Open positions range from Engineering and Sales to Chief of Staff. Check ‘em out here
  • Real estate investment banking firm Johnson Capital is opening a new office in Palo Alto to cater towards clients in Silicon Valley. They make deals starting at $1M and over, and have tapped local industry insider Thomas Bracken to lead the expansion effort.
  • HP’s still got it. Much has been made by Google’s public plans to hire 6,200 this year, but according to CNN, HP has them beat – at 6,583 current jobs.
Here are current openings in California; we see over 420 with salaries estimated at $80K and above.

Want to work at one of these companies? Here’s a tip: Apply as soon as you see the job listing. The hard truth: many companies don’t look back after they’ve got a short list.

We recently talked to an insider at one of these companies – and she credits applying quickly with helping her get the job. In fact, her job was only listed for 48 hours.
