Bay Area Hiring Round-Up: Apple Hiring Thousands, Getting Spacy

Steve Jobs has made his second big announcement of the week: Apple is building a spaceship like campus in Silicon Valley to house over 12,000 employees. A sketch of the new facility looks a bit like a flying saucer; you can see a picture here – and check out over 2,000 job postings at Apple in California here.

In other Silicon Valley news, we see signs of the tech hiring boom continuing — with trickle down growth in the financial services sector. Here’s a round-up:

  • Financial services advisory firm Robert W. Baird is expanding their team in San Francisco with two key hires, and gunning to grow more.Co
  • Data management firm Splunk has a new office in Cupertino, California to supplement staffing needs. They’re growing quickly, HQ is in San Francisco. Career info and big number of job listings here.
  • Mobile app company StackMob just received $7.5 million in funding; Xconomy reports that they will also be hiring. No listings on the site; but a contact list of staffers on the site.

Bay Area Hiring Round-up: It Takes Hundreds to Make a Saleforce, Salesforce.com, That is

Salesforce.com has over 300 posted positions with an estimated salary of $90K and above. Looks like they are feeling optimistic, they estimate revenue for 2012 at over $2.15 billion.

Interested in applying for any of these gigs? Here’s a tip—take their products for a test drive. Aside from Net5, all of these companies have services and products you could test drive as a customer. When you apply, tell them you are an avid fan of the product. Be ready with an answer of what you might change if you worked with them – most companies appreciate honest, educated feedback. Done well, it could increase your hireability.

 


 

SF Bay Area Hiring Gold Rush: Who’s Doubling in Size & Who’s Looking

 LinkedIn was just one of the companies making news this week in the Bay area. Here are others who’ve made headlines – and who are looking to grow quickly.

  • EventBrite announced $50M in series E funding earlier this week. The company, which recently moved into bigger office digs in San Francisco that will enable them to double in size, plans to increase headcount by roughly 25%— or another 60 employees by year’s end. Many of these jobs will be in Customer Service; they want to answer your phone call as fast as they can. But they have jobs across the company, from Accounting, Engineering and Marketing to Sales and Quality Assurance.
     
  • Also on the fast track to double in size is Practice Fusion, a San Francisco based company that helps hospitals and healthcare systems with the Federally mandated transition to electronic health records (EHR).  This week, Practice Fusion announced their goal of doubling staff from 75 to 150 by December; they are also looking for more office space to accommodate staff.
     
  • With less than 18 months on the marketplace, enterprise mobility software company MobileIron has over 400 customers – and opened an office in Tokyo this week. Self-described as one of the fastest growing companies in Silicon Valley, Mobile Iron is hiring for 10 different software engineering positions, a Director of Engineering, and an HR Manager. Check ‘em out.
     
  • Not only the tech sector that sweet in San Francisco right now;  the Bay Area’s been named the top place in the country to get a Finance job . The list, published by Accounting Principals, names Denver and Paramus, New Jersey to the number 2 and 3 spots. Leading the pack for Finance jobs in the Bay Area is Delotte with over 200 job postings with an estimated salary of $80K or higher.

SF Bay Hiring Update: Lufthansa Love Fest, HP Hiring more than Google & Why You May Want to Think In the Box

Did you miss “Lufthansa German Airlines Day” yesterday? The City of San Francisco toasted Lufthansa in “honor of the first regularly scheduled commercial Airbus 380 flight to enter the city.”

The two story plane – the world’s largest – has 526 seats and will increase the number of people visiting San Francisco by hundreds—if not thousands. “The fleet upgrade will lead to 1,300 direct and indirect jobs in San Francisco, Board of Supervisors President David Chiu said, and generate $100 million in revenue annually.”

Look for jobs in tourism, hospitality and operations—all industries that pick up with more foot traffic. Here are 300 job listings already, 70 postings of which have a salary estimate of $100K and above.

Here are other places to look in and around San Francisco.

  • In the Box. Box.Net is ranked as one of San Francisco’s Fastest growing companies and best places to work. They’ve announced plans to expand their workforce from 40 to 240 by year’s end. Open positions range from Engineering and Sales to Chief of Staff. Check ‘em out here
  • Real estate investment banking firm Johnson Capital is opening a new office in Palo Alto to cater towards clients in Silicon Valley. They make deals starting at $1M and over, and have tapped local industry insider Thomas Bracken to lead the expansion effort.
  • HP’s still got it. Much has been made by Google’s public plans to hire 6,200 this year, but according to CNN, HP has them beat – at 6,583 current jobs.
    Here are current openings in California; we see over 420 with salaries estimated at $80K and above.

Bay Area Hiring Round-Ups: Facebook’s Plans to Hire over 9,000 & Other Signs Tech Boom Continues

Facebook plans to hire over 9,400 in the next six years – in Northern California alone. That’s the takeway from a new Environmental Impact report posted on the Menlo Park city website. Facebook filed the plan as they’ll need to build five new buildings to house the anticipated new hires. They’re taking over a former Sun Microsystems campus and bought another 22 acres of new space, too. Here are the 175 active jobs they have for their current headquarters in Palo Alto.

And here’s a round-up of others hiring in the Bay Area:

  • Good with people and interested in financial services? Check out Silicon Valley Bank (SVB). Last week they made big headlines after releasing a survey that showed 83% of start-ups plan to hire in 2011. They also made news for serving as one of two backers of a new $50M credit facility for Florida-based Highwinds Capital Inc.. A provider of diversified financial services to emerging, growth and established technology companies and the life science, venture capital and premium wine markets, SVB has over 70 jobs currently posted in California, opportunities include relationship management, operations, business systems and IT portfolio management.
     
  • Security Systems provider AgilePath has announced the opening of a new West Coast office in California. They’ve opened shop in Concord, CA, an East Bay community 30 miles from San Francisco. No visible jobs on their website, but we respect confidentiality from data protection firms.
     
  • And, finally, in case you’ve gained too much weight from working in start-ups in the Bay Area, bay area weight loss clinics Greenlite Medicine just opened a third clinic in San Francisco. They’ve already got a presence close to Google HQ in Mountain View, now they’re close to Twitter!

Hot, Hot, Hot: Thousands of Jobs in Silicon Valley

If you’ve been watching the headlines lately, you’ve probably seen that Silicon Valley is sizzling with opportunity. Here’s a quick run down of who’s hiring:

  • Dell is one of the established tech companies to hire big. They’ll open their first research center Silicon Valley later this year to focus on cloud computing, storage and networking technology, and have openly stated interest in hiring currently employed tech employees. In five years, they plan to have 1,550 employees at the center. We see 70+ job postings for Dell in the Bay Area right now, 30 of em have an estimated salary of $100K or above. Check ‘em out.
  • If you don’t want to wait for a job, check out SalesForce.com – they’ve got over 750 jobs in the Bay Area alone – over 500 of which have an estimated salary of $70K
  • And if you like chocolate and video games….fresh from an Intel cash infusion of $12M, Digital Chocolate is hiring game developers for San Mateo, Helsinki, Bangalore and Madrid. The company won the iPad Apps download race last year, we bet they’ll be on a stint for more.
  • If no taste for video games, but you thirst to work at a Vineyard instead, check out the openings at E. & J. Gallo, we see over 60 jobs – many of which will take you far away from a cubicle and into a vineyard.

Twitter Hiring Big in San Fran, Elsewhere (How to Join the Flock)

Twitter is growing its flock. The company recently received government tax incentive to stay in San Francisco and will be moving their headquarters from Folsom Street into a bigger building.

Twitter currently has 450 employees, and has over 60 job titles listed on their site. We anticipate they’ll hire more than one applicant for many of these positions. Also, expect to share your Twitter feed as part of the job search process

The lion’s share of jobs are in San Francisco, but there are also opps to work in LA, Japan, London…

FarmVille Now Hiring for Cities Nationwide

Social networking game creator Zynga brought you and your friends Farmville, now they’re hiring new staff in big cities nationwide from Austin, Cambridge and New York to San Francisco and Seattle (their newest office digs)

Turns out there’s a lot of money in giving your neighbor a cow; AOL reports Zynga valuation at nearly $10 billion.
