Bay Area Hiring Round-Ups: Facebook’s Plans to Hire over 9,000 & Other Signs Tech Boom Continues

May 4th, 2011

Facebook plans to hire over 9,400 in the next six years – in Northern California alone. That’s the takeway from a new Environmental Impact report posted on the Menlo Park city website. Facebook filed the plan as they’ll need to build five new buildings to house the anticipated new hires. They’re taking over a former Sun Microsystems campus and bought another 22 acres of new space, too. Here are the 175 active jobs they have for their current headquarters in Palo Alto.

And here’s a round-up of others hiring in the Bay Area:

  • Good with people and interested in financial services? Check out Silicon Valley Bank (SVB). Last week they made big headlines after releasing a survey that showed 83% of start-ups plan to hire in 2011. They also made news for serving as one of two backers of a new $50M credit facility for Florida-based Highwinds Capital Inc.. A provider of diversified financial services to emerging, growth and established technology companies and the life science, venture capital and premium wine markets, SVB has over 70 jobs currently posted in California, opportunities include relationship management, operations, business systems and IT portfolio management.

  • Security Systems provider AgilePath has announced the opening of a new West Coast office in California. They’ve opened shop in Concord, CA, an East Bay community 30 miles from San Francisco. No visible jobs on their website, but we respect confidentiality from data protection firms.

  • And, finally, in case you’ve gained too much weight from working in start-ups in the Bay Area, bay area weight loss clinics Greenlite Medicine just opened a third clinic in San Francisco. They’ve already got a presence close to Google HQ in Mountain View, now they’re close to Twitter!
