Live in NY: Mind Candy & Insites Consulting Jump the Pond, Small Biz Job Opps & Citi Grows Institutional Biz

May 2nd, 2011

Sometimes good things really do come in smaller packages: Intuit’s Small Business Employment Index shows that approximately 60,000 new jobs were created in April by businesses with fewer than 20 employees. These jobs were created nationwide, but highlight an on-going market need: the need for people to work in roles and for firms providing services small businesses. We see over 240 “small business” related jobs with estimated salaries of $90K and above in New York right now. Check ‘em out!

Here are other opps for the Big Apple

  • Fast growing UK-based Mind Candy has announced the opening of a New York office. Mind Candy bills itself as “one of the world’s leading developers of social multi-player games, helping kids (and big kids!) around the world play and connect.” They have 40 million users; a third of whom are in the U.S. There first big hire in the U.S. is Eric Karp, a guy with a lot of licensing experience — will there be announcements of other sales and BD positions to follow?

  • Global firm Insites Consulting is planning an expansion into NYC as well – their first expansion across the pond. (Other offices are in the UK, Belgium, Romania and the Netherlands.) No job listings yet, but expect to see a help wanted ad or two soon.

  • Citigroup has announced plans to hire 500 globally to bolster their business in with institutional clients – positions include banking & trading jobs. Here at home, we see over 700 current jobs in New York.

While in diverse fields, all of these jobs will likely require cross-cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor. If applying with InSites Consulting or Mind Candy, the ability to drink a cup of tea properly may be a pre-requisite. And remember, those coming over from the UK are sticklers for being on time. So follow up when you say you will!
