Pharma/Biotech Watch: Confluence Life Sciences in St. Louis

March 18th, 2011

Here’s a company to watch in St. Louis:

Confluence Life Sciences, Inc., an early-stage life sciences company developing treatments for cancer and chronic inflammatory diseases in animals and humans, is getting funded and growing fast.

St. Louis County Port Authority, an affiliate of the St. Louis County Economic Council, has committed to investments of $1.5 M. The Port Authority’s reason for investment include groundbreaking drugs in Confluence’s pipeline as well as the opportunity to keep intellectual capital in town:

Respected local scientist Joe Monahan started the company less than a year ago and already has gained the attention of BioGenerator, a local non-profit fund targeting early-stage life sciences companies and St. Louis County Economic Council. Monahan is a highly regarded research scientist with 28 years experience in the drug discovery field.

“What sets Confluence apart from other scientific start-ups is the sheer number of workers it has hired. The company has nine full or part-time employees and is recruiting new scientists from every corner of the United States. Confluence has grown very fast and is still in its first year,” said BioGenerator Principal Charlie Bolten.
