Irish Companies Employ 80,000 in U.S. (Guinness among the hiring)

March 17th, 2011

U.S. consumers have a taste for Guinness and Irish whiskey. Not surprisingly, the U.S is Ireland’s top export destination. (Here are current jobs available through Guinness’s parent company, Diageo.

But as you celebrate St. Patrick’s day, here’s another stat: did you know that Irish companies also employ 80,000 workers in the U.S.? (Stat courtesy of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland.) Industry sectors of Irish organizations run the gamut from financial services and renewable energy to software development. Check out for example, Newbay Software in Seattle—they’re hiring 10 as part of an expansion effort.

Not surprisingly, some of the jobs available with Irish companies are with food and beverage companies. The Irish Food Board, Board Bia, has an office in New York that focuses on these relationships. The Irish Pub Company works with global clients to design pubs across the U.S.—if you’ve ever been in a Fado, P.J. O’Briens or an O’Neills—you’ve seen their work.
