General summary:

A standardized patient (SP) is an individual who is trained to simulate a medical scenario for learners in training. The SP: Forensic Actor will be trained to accurately portray victims of sexual and/or physical abuse while interacting with healthcare and community providers. The scenarios will allow the learner to demonstrate the sensitive clinical skills required when caring for victims of a traumatic crime. All scenarios will be performed in the Hospital Simulation Center and may be video or audio recorded. The simulation may include the following:

* History of the assault (physical and/or sexual)

* General medical and social history

* Symptoms and injuries associated with history provided

* Physical and emotional state of the SP

* Head to toe physical examination

* Genital examination, including insertion of speculum

* Evidence collection (Clothing will be returned and specimens will be destroyed)

* Photographs of mock injuries applied to the SP with makeup

* Safety and discharge planning

Applicant requirements:

* Flexibility and reliability with assignments

* Comfort level with intimate topics provided in scenarios

* Acting experience preferred, not required

Duties and responsibilities:

* Work in a professional manner with effective communication skills.

* Simulate a realistic portrayal of a victim of sexual assault or physical abuse with appropriate affect/behavior and physical findings.

* Demonstrate improvisational skills when appropriate to the case scenario.

* Allow general physical examination and evidence collection.

* Will accommodate guided genital/pelvic internal examinations under private and modest conditions.

* After training provide constructive feedback with guided tool to enhance the learning process (direct, written, computer).

* Receptive to ongoing feedback from SP educator, instructor, learner and modifies performance as needed.

* Perform other duties specific to the job description as need arises.

* Required to complete basic WellSpan employee training.

The SP will be reimbursed at an hourly rate with additional compensation for invasive (speculum) examinations.

Required Experience

Preferred Experience: Acting experience
