Health Educator II - PD (Bilingual)

Description: Assesses, designs, implements, presents, & evaluates health education programs & services.

Essential Functions:

Conducts needs assessments, establishes priorities, designs, implements, and evaluates basic health education programs, protocols, and standards

Coordinates a wide range of health education services, including establishing effective referral and publicity systems, monitoring quality and documentation, providing scheduling and logistical support, and facilitating use of community services to promote the delivery of cost-effective health education services

Provides direct group or one-to-one health education services to members and the public

Reviews, develops, and recommends high quality, culturally appropriate, written and audio-visual health education materials

Consults with physicians and staff regarding related health education services

Coordinates health information projects such as program catalogs, newsletter, informational displays, community health events, etc

Specializes in a specific area of health education (e.g. HIV, nutrition, chronic disease, health promotion) as required

Monitors performance of health education instructors and counselors

Prepares reports, grants, proposals, and documentation, as assigned

Participates in establishing department strategic goals and priorities

Basic Qualifications:

One (1) year of previous experience in providing and coordinating health education services

Previous experience in uncomplicated curriculum and materials development

Bachelor's degree or four (4) years of equivalent experience in health education required

Masters degree preferred

For specialization - content expertise or certification required

Demonstrated knowledge of behavior change, adult learning, group process theory and application

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Knowledge of PC applications required

Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment

Bilingual (English/Spanish) Level II required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Registered Dietitian (RD) Required

Skill and experience in Motivational Interviewing.

Educational background or training in behavioral health, and experience with behavioral health education including, but not limited to, Medically Monitored Weight Loss Program, Medicare Wellness Visits, etc.

Notes:

Must successfully pass or have passed the bilingual test (within the last 12 months), or be active in the QBS program.

The actual days and shifts may vary between days and evenings.

Shifts not to exceed 8 hours per day.

Actual day-s work will vary Monday through Sunday.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to healthy balance weight loss program, medical nutrition therapy for individual Registered Dietitian consultations, Living Well with Diabetes class, Healthy Heart class, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), tube feeding, eating disorders, etc.

Position travels throughout Western San Fernando Valley, Simi Valley, and Ventura County.
