This position is Full-Time temporary position not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Position may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement may be eligible for rehire in subsequent service years provided the employee does not exceed 1039 hours of work in their service year.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site is May - October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2018

Relocation: Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Responsibilities

The selectee performs a variety of duties related to janitorial, grounds-keeping, buildings, roads, trails and fence maintenance. Performs a variety of minor building and structural maintenance work such as preparing and painting of interior and exterior surfaces, plumbing and electrical repairs and carpentry repairs. Operates riding and push-type mowers and weed trimmers. Performs various grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, fertilizing and watering lawns, trimming trees and hedges. Operates motor vehicles. Will pick up trash and clean restrooms and public use buildings. Performs janitorial work on all buildings and grounds in respective units of the park. Operates sweepers, vacuums, floor polishers and other mechanical and hand janitorial equipment. The work is performed both indoors and outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions. Operates small gas and electric power tools such as disc grinders, saws and post augers. Performs trail maintenance on walkways, paved and unpaved trails; and assists higher graded employees on building maintenance, road repair projects and other special projects. Performs construction and repair work on parks boundary fence. Completes daily work reports.

* Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.

* Incidental Driving: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. * Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

* Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.

* Work Schedule: You may be required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime.

* FOR NORTH DAKOTA PARKS: A retention incentive equal to 10 percent of your salary is approved for FY18 and applies to all eligible employees duty stationed at Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site. The retention incentive effectiveness is monitored annually and may not be approved in future years.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

* ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MAINTENANCE WORKER WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION (SCREEN OUT)

* Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order)

* Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints)

* Ability to Use and maintain tools and equipment

* Dexterity and Safely
