Our Opportunity:

The Financial Crimes Risk Management (FCRM) organization, which includes the Fraud Surveillance & Investigations group, is a part of Corporate Risk Management. FCRM's goals are to safeguard the firm's assets and make Charles Schwab the most trusted leader in the financial industry. The Fraud Surveillance & Investigations group consists of several teams that investigate potential fraud against our clients. The teams report matters to law enforcement, state regulators and Adult Protective Services agencies; review and analyze suspicious activity to determine emerging fraud trends; recover funds lost from custody; and file Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).

The Senior and Vulnerable Investor (SVI) team within Fraud Surveillance & Investigations investigates matters involving potential financial exploitation of our senior and/or vulnerable clients. These matters include possible violations of law and securities and banking regulations.

As a direct report to the Vice President of Fraud Surveillance & Investigations, the Managing Director of the SVI team will lead a group of individual financial exploitation analysts and team leads through the investigatory and asset recovery processes for matters involving elder and/or vulnerable clients. These investigations are often complex and require an ability to build effective partnerships and work in close cooperation with internal and external stakeholders such as business partners, state and county Adult Protective Services agencies, law enforcement and other financial institutions. Additionally, the SVI team may be called upon to provide guidance on handling matters for clients with diminished financial capacity.

What you'll do:

* Hire, inspire and develop SVI fraud and financial exploitation investigators and team leads

* Oversee team member guidance to business partners on diminished capacity issues

* Meet regularly with members of law enforcement, state regulators, financial industry peers and other entities to obtain critical intelligence relating to fraud and financial exploitation activity against and threats to our senior and/or vulnerable clients.

* Manage regulatory and state reporting requirements

* Provide ongoing analysis and reporting for new and emerging SVI fraud and financial exploitation trends

* Actively address the risk of SVI fraud and financial exploitation and work to mitigate the financial impacts by identifying those responsible, tracing the stolen proceeds and initiating the recovery efforts thereof

What you have:

* 10 years of investigative and/or social work experience, with a minimum 2 years focused on financial services fraud or SVI financial exploitation in a leadership role

* Excellent understanding of the financial industry's dynamic fraud environment, law enforcement protocols, and industry rules and regulations applicable to broker-dealers, investment advisors and banks

* Strong knowledge of financial institution disbursement channels, products and operational procedures & controls

* Robust people management and leadership skills and experience working in a matrixed environment and collaborating to achieve results

* Experience with SAR filing requirements and timelines

* Ability to identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies

* Comfort in a dynamic and fast-moving work environment, with a positive attitude, a solid work ethic and an ability to prioritize matters based on potential risk to the firm and its clientsProven ability to develop productive relationships across all levels of the organization

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

* Series 7 license and fraud certifications (CFE, ACFCS) are a plus
