The team and role

As a Software Engineer on the Amazon Robotics Applied Machine Learning (AML) team, you will be part of an exciting, diverse team that is responsible for developing and deploying full-stack software systems using AWS that are scalable, reliable and performant, is obsessed over its customers at its core and its solutions impact thousands of users for every minute of their working day! AI (Machine Learning, Data Science, etc.) is at the core of everything this team builds.

You will be part of an inter-disciplinary team comprised of Machine Learning Scientists and Software Engineers. The mission of this team is to deliver production quality software at Amazon scale with AI at the core. You will collaborate cross-functionally to develop pioneering applications in a highly exciting and innovative environment.

As a Software Development Engineer on the team, you will own software applications and systems that enable human and robotic fulfillment at scale. As an SDE you will make meaningful impact on fast moving, next generation fulfillment technologies by leading design and development efforts for critical and complex systems spanning multiple software and hardware teams. Working backwards from customer needs, you will identify the right technologies to achieve high customer experience standards. You will coach and mentor other engineers to foster a culture of relentless high-standards and will collaborate cross-functionally to develop pioneering applications in a highly exciting and innovative environment.

As a Sr. Software Development Engineer at the AML organization at Amazon Robotics, you will:

· Collaborate with other engaged, friendly, principles-first thinking oriented engineers to understand customer use cases and implement core engineering capabilities for Amazon's enormous fulfillment network.

· Operate across multiple layers of the stack to design and build fault-tolerant distributed systems that optimize our fleet of fulfillment infrastructure and robots.

· Participate in software architecture and design reviews.

· Develop tools to test and analyze complex systems, including those deployed in production at customer sites, and dig into critical pieces of distributed systems like logging, tracing, metrics.

· Challenge and mentor other engineers.

· Code with no fear, supported by continuous builds, tests, a constructive code-review process, and a supportive culture of identifying and fixing bugs.

· Hire and mentor other engineers on the team.

Key job responsibilities

Basic Qualifications

· 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

· Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

· 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience

· Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis

· Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, agile development, build processes, testing, and operations

· Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and test full-stack software in a fast-paced environment

Preffered Qualifications

· Experience developing in Amazon Web Services - AWS

· Experience with mentoring other engineers

· Experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability

· Self-motivated and able to solve problems independently

· Strong communication skills, ability to work well in a team environment

· Strong desire to develop skills in Machine Learning and Data Science
