Academic Advisor - West Lafayette - Agricultural and Biological Engineering

Agricultural and Biological Engineering is seeking an enthusiastic academic advisor/student services professional to foster undergraduate student success.

Responsibilities include advising current students and meeting with prospective students and families. Communicate and work with colleagues in the Colleges of Engineering and Agriculture, the Office of the Registrar, Office of the Dean of Students and other university/college offices to maximize student success. Work closely with faculty mentors to complement and enhance their work with students.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

* Provide advice and guidance regarding course registration & degree progression

* Build meaningful relationships via consistent quality contact with students

* Identify and implement strategies to promote student success and retention

* Be actively involved in the Department and willing to identify ways to improve the program

Required:

* Master's degree in a field relevant to the position.

* One year of experience in academic advising, student services, student affairs, career development, or closely related.

* Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

* Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal/customer service skills.

* Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents.

* Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines.

* Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information and implement solutions.

* Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion.

* Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment.

* Basic proficiency in following software: Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

* Valid US or Canadian driver's license.

Preferred:

* Experience in STEM or closely related fields.

* Knowledge of academic advising, as well as programs and policies at Purdue University.

* Familiarity with following software: myPurdue, Banner, COGNOS.
