Conducts oral examinations, serves as a preventative care specialist and provides educational and clinical services supporting total health through the promotion of optimal oral health. Perform a variety of dental procedures to diagnose, prevent and treat conditions to help patients keep their mouth and teeth healthy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Use a variety of equipment, including: x-ray machines, hand pieces, mirrors, periodontal probes, forceps, brushes, scalpels, intra-oral cameras, water laser, wand anesthetic delivery system, oral cancer screening tools, etc. Administer anesthetics. Administer nitrous oxide. Review medial history and incorporate into comprehensive treatment. Examine teeth, gums, and related oral structures using dental instruments, x-rays, and other diagnostic equipment, to evaluate and diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and use this information to plan appropriate treatments. Analyze and evaluate dental needs to determine changes and trends of dental disease. Perform hygiene examinations. Perform oral cancer screenings. Diagnose periodontal disease and formulate appropriate treatment plan. Provide periodontal treatment. Remove decay and perform appropriate restorations including: composites, amalgams, crowns, implant crowns, and extractions. Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations or the teeth, gum and related oral structures. Provides preventative and corrective treatment for diseases, injuries, and malformations for the teeth, gum and related oral structures. Design and fit prosthetic appliances such as space maintainers, bridges, and dentures. Advise/educate patients regarding preventive dental care, causes and treatment of dental diseases/problems, treatment options, and other health care services. Provide instructions on diet, brushing, flossing, use of fluorides and other medications. Write fabrication instructions or prescriptions for dental lab technicians. Write prescriptions for medications appropriate for treatment. Wear masks, gloves, safety glasses, and other personal protective equipment to protect self and patient from infectious diseases. Attends continuing education programs as required to maintain license to practice dentistry and further skills.

2. SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES: Exemplifies excellent patient service through patient requests/following, patient referrals, and demand force comments. Be a team player. Foster a positive attitude at work with patients and co-workers. Practice First Choice philosophy of 3-step communication. Perform work in an efficient manner (timeliness of patient care). Follows HIPPA guidelines regarding patient privacy. Conducts patient care calls. Willingness to help out at other sites as needed (on day off or when asked). Satisfactory annual increase in average production per hour. Respect patient privacy by maintaining a professional tone and keeping the focus and conversation centered on the patient. Initiate ideas for ways the site can improve or become more efficient. Takes the time to carefully explain information to patients in a non-technical manner.

KNOWLEDGE EDUCATION:

* Graduation from an accredited school of dentistry * Pass national board exam part I and II * Pass regional licensure exam: CRDTS, NERB, WREB, etc.

EXPERIENCE:

* 1 3 years of general dental experience preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

* Ability to work in an area with high noise levels caused by dental equipment. * Exposure to chemicals found in dental materials and products, such as acids and disinfectants. * Exposure to biological hazards such as blood borne pathogens, infectious diseases, contaminated wastes, saliva, and radiation.
