National Railroad Passenger Corporation has an opening for Principal Application System Engineer in Washington DC.

Duties: Responsible for development and support for multiple applications. The position entails development, and enhancement of Amtrak’s platform and applications. Daily tasks include responding to change and trouble tickets, monitoring the platform for failures, exceptions and threshold issues, tuning and optimizing applications performance, testing applications for product upgrades and patches, communicating with customers and upper management about platform and/or ticket status, and working on occasional minor enhancements as remaining work capacity allows. Develop high quality software systems by analyzing requirements, providing technical design, developing software, support testing and deployment. Develop web based applications utilizing JEE and JavaScript framework. Responsible for developing critical revenue generating/supporting customer facing and enterprise applications. Responsible for analyzing and bringing in the new technology trends in the industry for the enterprise applications in station technologies to include kiosks, digital signage and agent applications. Help foster, mentor, coach and develop the technical team to take systems to the next level. Provide maintenance support of the applications by troubleshooting and resolving application issues to meet SLA’s and performance requirements.

Requirements: Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field followed by seven years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or seven years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation. Experience must include: 1) Seven years of programming and/or systems analysis experience; 2) Four years of experience in developing applications based on technical/functional design documents 3) Five years of programming experience in Java and/or C++ 4) Five years of experience in rail/travel industry 5) Four years of experience in developing service-oriented applications 6) Three years of experience with REST APIs 7) Three years of experience in Agile methodology 8) Five years of experience in technical leadership to lead project development team.
