The selectee is a Motor Vehicle Operator performing driving and operating duties on a variety of motor vehicles and equipment and also performs laboring tasks when not performing driving duties. Candidates must have a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement and Fork Lift certification.

* This incumbent of this position is designated as "Emergency Essential Personnel" and is required to report to work in emergency situations. *

This position is located in the House Office Buildings, Client Services Division, Labor and Custodial Branch, Day Labor & Custodial Section. The incumbent is a Motor Vehicle Operator performing driving and operating duties on a variety of motor vehicles and equipment. The selectee also performs routine laboring tasks when not performing driving duties.

This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

MAJOR DUTIES:

The primary driving duties relate to the 2002 Freightliner, Model FL 70, Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) 33,000 lbs with air brakes (CDL Required) to transport debris, scrap metal, pallets and other items to the Metal Recycling location or Landfills. Other vehicles being driven include an E150 Ford Van, a Transit 150, a Chevy Truck 3500, a Ford F-250, a Ford Van e-150 and a Polaris Ranger TM.

Picks up and deliver parts, materials and supplies from various House Office Buildings. Ensures that the cargo is properly loaded, distributed and secured prior to transport.

Operates a snowplow or salt truck with attachments to remove snow and disperse salt and sand.

Performs basic operator maintenance - monitors fluid levels; checks tires, batteries, and brakes; replaces air filters and interior lights; checks hose connections; cleans vehicle interior of exterior; and performs minor repairs.

Performs laborer duties when driving duties have been completed. Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and heavy construction building materials and supplies to and from trucks; moves heavy boxes and cartons by hand, hand truck, or dolly.

Delivers supplies to Members' Offices. Assists the shop offices' trades personnel by cleaning work areas at the end of the day; transporting tools and materials from shop areas or storage areas to job sites; and other similar work.

3. Must currently possess a good driving record. Possession of a good driving record is included in the suitability process. Maintenance thereof is a condition of continued employment. Failure to maintain a good driving record will result in termination. [Note: The selected candidate will be required to provide a "certified" copy of your driving record at the time of notification of selection.]

4. Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects weighing 50 lbs. or more without assistance.

5. Must possess fork lift certification.
