The National Governors Association (NGA) is a bipartisan organization of the nations governors. Through NGA, governors share best practices, speak with a collective voice on national policy and develop innovative solutions that improve state government support the principles of federalism. The National Governors Association (NGA) serves governors throughout the complete life-cycle of their administrationsfrom election day through the final year in office.

NGAs Office of Communications and Strategy Planning coordinates the associations communications strategies that publicize governors legislative activities, testimony and key events to build public support for their positions and provide media with timely, in-depth analysis and background information on positions and issues of interest to states. NGAs Office of Management Consulting and Training (OMCT) provides services, resources and training regarding the leadership and management of state government and the organization and operation of the governors office to governors, governors spouses and their staff members.

The Member Liaison works with the Office of Communications and Strategy Planning and the Office of Management Consulting and Training to help ensure that NGA understands and meets both the common and tailored needs of NGAs 55-member governors, their senior staff and cabinet.

Position Within Organization

* Reports To: Director, Communications and Strategic Management & Director, Management and Consultant Training

Duties and Key Responsibilities

* Develops and executes a strategy for tracking, compiling and sharing useful state by state information, news, events, etc.

* Identify current and emerging trends, challenging issues in state capitols for which NGA can provide guidance, assistance, solutions.

* This position will maintain vital knowledge of each governors office communications operations.

* Develops and executes a strategy and plan for collecting, maintaining and sharing governors office best practices, trends and exhibits regarding the staffing, operation and organization of governors communications offices.

* Create, launch and analyze a survey of governors communications offices.

* Help plan and execute the annual management training seminar for governors communications directors, press secretaries and staff. Plan and execute additional useful convenings (webinars, conference calls, etc.)

* Develop a standard onboarding process for new governors office communication directors and press secretaries

Required Skills

* Strong written and verbal communications skills

* Basic research skills

* Ability to work well within a team, collaboratively

* Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, be responsive to deadlines and work well under pressure

Required Education and Experience

* Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications or Political Science

* 3-5 years of experience marketing and communicating a wide range of programs, services, resources, products, etc.

* Experience working in state government

* Experience working across multiple departments
