The Associate Manager, Development manages the Pro Bono Center’s development activities to help raise $5 million annually to support free legal services for low-income District of Columbia residents. As part of a small team the position manages direct mail solicitations and email campaigns, foundation grants, workplace giving programs, and special events. The role also provides input into the Pro Bono Center’s marketing and communications strategy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages direct mail and e-mail solicitation campaigns, produces mailing lists, coordinates with vendors, and tracks and analyzes campaign results. Collaborates with the Membership department to ensure accurate donation processing.
  • Manages development and submission of all grant applications, coordinating with the appropriate Pro Bono Center staff.
  • Leads grant tracking and reporting; composes and submits accurate, complete reports to funders; and maintains historical records of solicitations and responses.
  • Serves as first point of contact for donor inquiries and ensures accurate, prompt and donor-centric acknowledgement of contributions and pledges
  • Assists with management of the annual Presidents Reception fundraising event, to include: drafting and producing solicitations, invitations, and various marketing materials; supporting the Development Committee, tracking responses and payments; and coordinating with vendors and staff. Provides oversight of the fundraising consultant during the annual President’s Reception.
  • Uses association management software (AMS) to produce reports and track donors.
  • Creates fundraising content for the D.C. Bar website, newsletters, Washington Lawyer magazine, annual reports, videos, and social media.
  • Ensures accurate and timely donor recognition on D.C. Bar website, iWashington Lawyer magazine, and the annual report
  • Manages monthly giving programs, law firm giving campaigns, planned giving opportunities, and Combined Federal Campaign.
  • Represents the Pro Bono Center at various events and serves as backup to Pro Bono Center program and communications staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (i.e., at least 2 weeks after last dose) and have received at least one COVID-19 booster shot and, if hired, present proof of vaccination by start date.
  • Prior relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends for a variety of Pro Bono Center clinics and events.
  • Experience with fundraising, association management or customer relationship management software.
  • Experience with grant writing and reporting.
  • Experience working with executive leadership, board of directors and/or committee volunteers.
  • Ability to develop and cultivate relationships with current and prospective donors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to write inspiring content to motivate donors and volunteers to support an organization’s mission
  • Must be detail oriented and deadline driven. Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Must work well in a team environment and be able to interact with Bar members, volunteers, vendors, the public and Pro Bono Center and Bar employees.
  • Must be able to interact with individuals with diverse backgrounds, including people of limited means, with patience and compassion.
  • Must work well under pressure, possess excellent organizational abilities, and able to manage several priorities in a day.
  • Must be adaptable, creative, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in a legal environment or with the D.C. legal community.
  • Experience in special event fundraising and event management.
  • Experience with email marketing software platforms.

This position is currently a hybrid position, with days worked in the office and days worked remotely. The hybrid status of this position may change at any time subject to the Bar’s discretion.
