Job Summary:

The Emergency Department Pharmacist provides direct patient care in a decentralized capacity for the Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital Emergency Department. Services include, but are not limited to, patient and provider education, medication profile review and drug therapy optimization, order verification, support for nursing staff, medication histories and reconciliation, response to resuscitation/code events, medication selection support, medication therapy management, and clinical research. In addition, the pharmacist will serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents as well as serving on enterprise standardization, process improvement, and other Emergency Medicine related committees.

South Pointe Hospital is a 173-bed acute care community teaching hospital located in

Warrensville Heights, an eastern suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. South Pointe is accredited by The Joint Commission and has a medical staff that consists of 500 allopathic and osteopathic

physicians. As one of the largest osteopathic teaching institutions in Ohio, South Pointe Hospital is the Center for Osteopathic Regional Education in Northeast Ohio and is also the location for a new medical school extension campus of Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OUHCOM).In 2017-2018 South Pointe Hospital was identified as one of the "Best Hospitals" in Ohio and in the greater Cleveland area by U.S. News & World Report. South Pointe was ranked by U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals" survey with two high-performance specialties in neurology and neurosurgery, as well as two high-performance conditions including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart failure.

Ensures the appropriate selection, dosing, administration, and dispensing of medication orders. Manages the oversight and supervision of activities of pharmacy technicians.


* Reviews and assesses medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential and actual drug related problems.

* Recommends formulary alternatives when appropriate.

* Compounds and dispenses medications for delivery to patient care areas.

* Provides drug information and education to medical staff.

* Communicates with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care.

* Other duties as assigned.


* Bachelor's of Science degree in Pharmacy or PharmD. from an accredited college of pharmacy.


* Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current State within 90 days of hire.

Complexity of Work:

* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

* Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

* Minimum one year related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

* Mobility, grasping, reaching, bending, sitting and standing.

Personal Protective Equipment:

* Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
