The primary purpose of this position is to provide support and assistance to the Fitness Center Director by administering fitness, sports and special events/programs.

* Oversees operation of facility.

* Provides quality service to patrons in issuing of equipment and supplies.

* Oversees general housekeeping during shift of duty within facility and immediate outside area.

* Maintains facilities in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition.

* Participates in required in-service training and maintains currency, capability and certification to perform basic first aid, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automatic external defibrillator).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least 1 year of specialized experience administering recreation programs to include fitness, sports and special events activities. This experience must have been at a level of difficulty and complexity sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of this position. Examples are group leader for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, urban community centers or resort recreational activities. It may have been gained in the private sector, volunteer service, military service, and/or government service, etc.


Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. Combination of Experience/Education: You must have a combination of the specialized experience and education as described above that equals 100 percent when combined to equal the required 1 year of specialized experience needed for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

* Knowledge of sports and fitness special programs, events, and intramural and varsity sports

* Ability to administer basic concepts of special programs, events, and sports.

* Knowledge of proper use and operation of electronic and mechanical fitness equipment and supplies associated with fitness and sports.

* Knowledge of and proficiency in a variety of lifesaving and associated techniques surrounding first aid and CPR.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
