Fuel & Lube Technician

Position Overview

Fuel/Lube technician provide fuel, lubricant oils and grease to fleet of off road and construction equipment and additional associated services in a professional and courteous manner. The lube technician generally fuels and completes PM services and minor repairs on OTR and on road vehicles at a shop facility under the direction of the Shop Foreperson.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Report for shift on time and dressed in proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean work truck and a safe work environment including using all safety equipment and following all safety procedures.
  • Interact with all employees in a professional manner.
  • Ensures that all tools are accessible.
  • PM service and fueling all trucks and equipment using fuel, lube, and filters.
  • Make minor repairs to equipment or trucks.
  • Monitor work flow (scheduling and machine availability) and make adjustments as required..
  • Works extended, and at time, erratic hours.
  • Inspect, report, and correct deficiencies, and maintain all types of heavy equipment, including but not limited to reclaimers, milling machines, loaders, haul trucks, graders, dozers, pavers, rollers, dump trucks, Redimix trucks, trailers and road tractors.
  • Examines equipment and discusses with shop foreperson the nature and extent of damage or malfunction.
  • Raises equipment, with hydraulic jack, hoist or crane, to gain access to mechanical components underside of equipment.
  • Repairs or replaces parts such as but not limited to drums, seals, buckets, hydraulic pumps, electric motors, air and hydraulic valves, pistons, rods, gears, electrical wiring, electrical components, radios, heaters, wipers etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all brands and types of mobile equipment with proper procedures for containment and/or disposal of waste.
  • Fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment.
  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.
  • Strict adherence to Tilcon policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Less than high school education; or up to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.

Work Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Able to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Work Environment

  • Noise: sufficient noise, either constant or intermittent, to cause marked distraction or possible injury to sense of hearing.
  • Fumes: vaporous emissions, usually odorous, thrown off as the result of combustion or chemical reaction.
  • Gases: carbon monoxide and ozone.
  • Dust: airborne particles of any kind such as dust.
  • Hazards: closeness to moving mechanical parts; slipping while ascending/descending equipment cab; exposure to high temperatures during the summer and cold temperatures during the winter.
  • Protection: required to wear hard hat, safety glasses (prescription or non-prescription) with side shields, safety vest, gloves, steel-toed safety shoes, hearing protection.
