Sr. Engineer, Build and Release

Summary and Qualifications:

  • The primary purpose and function of the Sr. Engineer, Build & Release is to support new development of code by creating or merging many parallel development efforts and provide production support to applications. This position will work closely with other Build & Release Engineers to research, customize, and automate the effective delivery of multiple versions of software to a targeted user base. This position is responsible for documentation, implementation, operational delivery, coordination of software builds, and automation of setup processes using Microsoft-centric technologies.

  • This role will chart the journey of the team to the cloud and bring skills to bear on a build and release pipeline that is fully cloud based.


Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.

  • Collaborate with architects, developers, project managers, and test engineers to assist in the definition and maintenance of set-ups, builds, automation, and best practices to ensure a repeatable and traceable process for software releases.

  • Implement and deliver complex software products according to specifications for multiple releases and versioning.

  • Maintain build environment, scripting and automating the build process, maintenance of software revision history; ensure the delivery of software release notes from the developers and validate delivery requirements against checklist.

  • Identify and correct any problems and report any issues to the appropriate team.

  • Lead the design and implementation of Infrastructure as code automation of environments and configuration in the cloud.

  • Document the build system and process.

  • Always be value focused for our customers and contribute in any manner possible in a team moving to agile.

  • Propose improvements to the Technical Lead or Development Manager and implement approved improvements.

  • Identify and correct any problems and report any issues to the appropriate team.

  • Other job duties as assigned.


Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.

  • Project timelines and work volume / deadlines may occasionally work more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.

  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.

  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.

  • Environment where pets are present.



Experience, Education and/or Training :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Minimum of four years of Programming build and release.

  • Experience working with Azure Devops, TFS (Team Foundation Server), Azure Fabric, YAML, Hyper-V Server Management, PowerShell Scripting.

  • Experience working with multiple tasks and large complex projects simultaneously within a fast-paced and entrepreneurial-type work environment is required.

  • Effective communicator and presenter with the ability to lead and influence colleagues, cross-functional teams and leaders is preferred.

  • Experience with cloud deployment is required.
