# To provide care for clinic patients following established standards and practices.# Performs a variety of assisting procedures of a routine nature requiring limited skills.# Monitors and responds to patient needs and concerns as directed by the patient#s physician.# Also performs phlebotomy and EKG under the direction of the physician.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
# Under the direction of the physician, the Medical Assistant I#s primary responsibility is to become independent in assisting the physician with performing all procedures regularly performed in the office environment. Consistently interacts professionally and cooperatively with customers (e.g., patients, co-workers, physicians, visitors).
# Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital. Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times, keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients. Assists physicians in all aspects of practice. Performs phlebotomy and/or EKG#s as requested by physicians. Provides direct and individualized care based on the application of scientific principles under the supervision of the physician. Prepares patients prior to the physicians examination by carrying out certain procedures; screening and recording pertinent pre exam data, vital signs, heights and weights as applicable, obtains specimens. Sets-up, prepares equipment and assists the physician with patient exams, testing and/or special procedures, pelvic exams, pap smears, suturing biopsies, EKG#s, minor surgeries, etc.# Ensures that appropriate special consents are provided and obtained if appropriate. Performs general care to patients and administers medications and treatments under the supervision of the physician. Observes, records and reports patient#s condition and/or reaction to medications and treatments to the physician.
# Maintains good relationships with patients and other staff members.# Works well with other people. Demonstrates ability to effectively deal with difficult customers (e.g., patients, co-workers, physicians, visitors, auxilians). Must be able to communicate clearly with staff and patients both verbally and in writing. Must be able to hear and communicate on the telephone. Must have manual dexterity and visual acuity to use office equipment. Maintains current knowledge of trends in the healthcare field. Must have basic computer skills.
# High School Diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a Medical Assisting course or equivalent. CPR required (must be from American Heart Association or American Red Cross). Medical Assistant Registration or Certification preferred.# New hires must become either registered or certified within one (1) year of hire. Phlebotomy Certification preferred. Radiology Technologist (one licensed tech is required on site) preferred. Minimum of one year of experience in clinical setting required.
