The Maintenance Assistant performs entry level work in the maintenance and repair of the buildings and equipment at NTSH – Vernon Campus. Work involves preparing and painting the interior and exterior of buildings, equipment, and furnishings. Helps replace broken window glass and damaged sheet rock, and other related duties. Will work weekend rotation schedule as required. Work is performed on the Vernon Campus and may be performed on the Wichita Falls Campus as needed under the supervision of the Maintenance Specialist III, Maintenance Supervisor I, Assistant Plant Maintenance Manager, and Plant Maintenance Manager.Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. EJF 1. Assists in preparing and painting the interior and exterior of buildings, equipment, and furnishings. (60%) EJF 2. Prepares, paint, stains, and varnishes under supervision of painting supervisor for proper use. (10%)EJF 3. Assists in performing limited carpenter work such as replacing broken window glass, repairing damaged sheet rock, installing signs, and bulletin boards, and concrete work. (5%)EJF 4. Accounts for personal tool inventory by following departmental procedures to ensure safety of patients and employees. (5%)EJF 5. Assists other crafts in construction or repairs of facility. (5%)EJF 6. Will work weekend rotation schedule as required with tasks being done in a professional and efficient manner to ensure compliance with instructions and quality standards. (5%)EJF 7. Performs other tasks as assigned. (5%)EJF 8. Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. (5%)EJF 9. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy.Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Knowledge Skills Abilities:

1.Working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.2. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.3. Skill in use of tools and equipment in a safe manner.4. Ability to work with others.5. Must have an acceptable driving record according to standards developed by the Texas Department of Public Safety. 6. Must be enrolled in, or must have completed and passed, an approved six hour defensive driving course. The completion certificate will remain valid for a period of three years.Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Must possess valid Texas driver's license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. 1. A stable work history is required.2. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is preferred.3. Skill in the use of hand and power tools is preferred.4. Knowledge in preparation of surfaces for painting and paint application is preferred.Additional Information:
