A Family Center VISTA

Americorps Vernon, CT
The Village VISTA Collaborative, a new VISTA project sponsored by the Village for Children and Families in Hartford, Connecticut, will place four VISTAs in three assignments that address financial literacy and the opioid crisis. VISTAs will grow the capacity of several programs of the Village. VISTAs will serve low-income communities of Hartford and Vernon, Connecticut. The Village's current strategic plan includes goals to enhance care coordination throughout our network of programs. To this end, we are seeking to promote productive connections across services to ensure clients' identified needs are effectively met, specifically in our family center programs. Our Family Center provides an array of services to assist families with young children to take steps to improve their life circumstances. Some of these services include basic needs assistance, Adult Basic Education (ABE) to support adult learners working towards earning their High School Diploma, Parenting support and education through Home visitation and groups support, monthly social networking groups, case management and referrals for additional support services including housing, energy assistance, mental health treatment. While these programs have similar goals, bridging their services will provide more holistic services and long term solutions to eradicate poverty.
