Description

Penn State Law's Legal-Tech Virtual Lab seeks to expose students to how cutting-edge legal technology is being implemented in practice and the emerging legal issues surrounding technology. It also aims to develop, in collaboration with Penn State's new Center for Immersive Learning, innovative immersive learning experiences. The Lab focuses on artificial intelligence and machine learning, blockchain, 3-D printing, immersive technology, and cryptocurrency among other emerging technologies. Its "virtual" approach focuses on providing students with exposure to a set of technologies and experiences, rather than on developing a fixed physical space. The Legal-Tech Virtual Lab Scholar will be responsible for assisting the Faculty Director of the Legal-Tech Virtual Lab with all lab initiatives. This includes but is not limited to researching legal technologies and emerging legal issues surrounding such technologies in collaboration with Dean's office research assistants; helping to organize and facilitate legal-tech pop-up events, legal hackathons, and meetings with legal-tech leaders in major cities; and administering legal technology software, such as mobile trial technologies and the Legal Technology Assessment. Candidates must hold a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school. A background in computer science or coding is helpful but not required.
