MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS•Possess a valid California Special Education Teaching Credential authorizing teaching of the orthopedically impaired (i.e., Education Specialist – Physical and Health Impairments; Specialist – Physically Handicapped; Standard Teaching Credential, Restricted Special Education Credential or Limited Specialized Preparation Credential in Orthopedically Handicapped; or Exceptional Children Credential – Orthopedically Handicapped), or be eligible to enroll in a university intern program by meeting the following requirements:oA Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or universityoPassing scores on the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)oPassing scores on a core subject-matter exam*•A Master of Arts Degree with an emphasis in special education, preferred;•Three (3) years successful teaching experience working with a wide range of age groups and handicapping conditions preferred;•Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver License;•Provide proof of automobile insurability;•Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance.* Candidates who have only a BA and CBEST may be employed on a Provisional Internship Permit to allow time to pass a subject-matter exam in order to enroll in a university intern program.

BASIC FUNCTIONUnder limited supervision of the Senior Director, Special Education; will teach academic and life experience skills; provide assistive technology (AT) and/or augmentative or alternative communication services to meet the individual needs of students with physical impairments in a variety of settings. Services can include instruction, consultation, and assessment associated with AT/AAC systems, modification of computer systems, specialized computer assistance, and determination of access.
