POSITION: Project Manager - Heavy Civil Construction

LOCATION: Tidewater, VA

OVERVIEW:

Our client is seeking a Project Manager with heavy civil construction experience to plan and direct civil engineering projects such as roads, bridges, and pipelines. The candidate will work with the superintendent to develop a dynamic relationship co-responsible for total contract performance and profitability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzes and understands plans and specifications
  • Thoroughly knows administrative procedures as outlined in Project Administration Manual
  • Inspects construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards
  • Proficiently produces accurate schedules with CPM scheduling program
  • Supervises and coordinates submittal process and working drawings requirements
  • Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, environmental impact studies, and designs for projects
  • Provides contract interpretation and clarification
  • Communicates in a clear and professional manner with job team and owners
  • Maintains and updates project schedules
  • Updates monthly schedules with assistance of project superintendent
  • Assists project superintendent with weekly two-week look-ahead schedule review
  • Understands and utilizes cost and productivity data
  • Maintains, verifies, and reports cost and income quantities for work performed
  • Reviews, approves, and submits progress billings
  • Analyzes, prepares, maintains, and monitors job costs and production budgets
  • Works with superintendent to control job costs and production budgets
  • Prepares and submits accurate and timely monthly cost, income, and cash flow projections
  • Executes and approves subcontractor requisitions and vendor invoices
  • Coordinates, prices, and assists project manager in settlement of change orders and claims19. Manages time and organizes office and filing system efficiently; organizes and maintains accurate project correspondence files.
  • Maintains subcontractor insurance certificate compliance
  • Maintains project compliance with underground utility notifications and locations (i.e. Miss Utility, etc.)
  • Promotes and participates in two-week and long-range planning with job team
  • Consistently and constantly applies and enforces Company safety policies

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • 5 years engineering work experience in a heavy civil construction environment
  • Proficient with spreadsheet and word processing programs
  • Proficient with CPM scheduling programs such as Primavera Project Planner.
  • Understanding of and experience using cost and productivity data
  • Respectful attitude toward all coworkers, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Able to professionally respond to issues quickly
  • Proactive and effective problem-solver who multitasks well
