What You'll Do Here:

Ed2go Catalog Product Managers are responsible for managing a catalog of products within the ed2go product portfolio. Products within their catalog can include (1) strategic market offerings where they will become the market expert for those areas, (2) strategic market offerings where they will work with other Cengage product managers who are the market experts, as well as (3) general catalog offerings that require ongoing management and support. Within strategic market offerings, the product manager will work with sales channel leaders to evaluate custom development opportunities, including cost/benefit and business case analysis.

The product manager is the owner and driver of their portfolio with responsibility and accountability for the overall performance of their portfolio. They are responsible for meeting or exceeding business targets, developing new/modified products based on market requirements, and increasing the profitability of existing products. They work closely with content leaders and learning designers who manage authors, content development, and production of content. They also work closely and cross-functionally with leaders and team members within marketing, sales, content, technology, finance, student services, and admissions to support a successful launch and positioning of the product line to the marketplace. The Product Manager is responsible for building and maintaining product lines based on opportunities identified through a broad understanding of the marketplace including continuing education, corporate training, workforce development, military transitions, and other learning spaces.

For all strategic market areas, ed2go product managers conduct market analysis to identify growth opportunities, perform segmentation, and determine business objectives. For strategic market areas where the ed2go product manager is also the market expert for a given product area, they are also responsible for understanding the competitive landscape, and how the product line can evolve to fully meet the needs of end users. For general catalog offerings, the product manager is expected to manage the product lifecycle and ongoing evaluation of alignment with business needs and initiatives.

This position reports to the Product Director on the Temecula-based ed2go team.

* Responsible for overall strategic vision and plan for products in their portfolio; achieve or exceed strategic goals for top-line and profit growth. Relentless drive to build winning, customer-driven solutions that solve students' problems, achieve Cengage/ed2go's business goals, and maximize return on investment.

* Make sound, market-informed and data-driven business proposals for investment and other strategic decisions. Do so objectively with the ability and willingness to prioritize investments appropriately for the good of the overall organization.

* Develop a strategic business plan for assigned portfolio. Must be objective and willing to make hard choices regarding investment prioritization for the good of the overall organization.

* Understand, analyze, identify, define, and size market segments and sub-segments associated with the assigned portfolio.

* Manage product lifecycle of multiple products simultaneously within scope and budget.

* Initiate, advocate, and negotiate profitable products and services for new or strategically expanded course offerings, alternative markets and channels, and strategic partnerships, all in response to new teaching/learning and business models.

* Identify and test product ideas within segments, including the administration of focus groups, advisory boards, reviews, customer meetings and sensing as appropriate.

* Regularly analyze product and portfolio plans to align forecasting and measurement of progress towards goals; provide business case for investment decisions. Collaborate with content leaders on monitoring production budgets and schedules.

* Partner closely with Marketing, Channel Sales, Admissions, and service teams to develop strong go-to-market plans.

* Make presentations at company sales meetings, customer visits, and conventions in support of sales efforts and to drive sales.

* Provide thought leadership on pricing, business model strategies, and setting business goals.

* Understand essential aspects of learning design with emphasis on digital learning solutions that address customer workflow and learning challenges.

In addition to the above, for strategic catalog areas:

* Anticipate discipline and industry trends, with a focus on digital learning solutions grounded in a market knowledge gained through data-driven market research.

* Develop a keen understanding of key competitors; develop an ability to anticipate competitor activity as it pertains to product medium or subject area.

* Develop winning strategies against specific competitors in key market areas

Skills You Will Need Here:

Basic (Required)

* 3-5 years relevant and successful product management, marketing, sales, or development experience.

* BA or BS.

* Highly analytic and excels at synthesis of structured and unstructured data; ability to assimilate substantial amounts of information - feedback from customers, quantitative data from web analytics, research reports, market trends and statistics - and to filter it into products that fit student and learner workflow.

* Intellectually curious, with a drive to know everything about our market and customers and to infuse that information with a significant dose of creativity to define a vision for products and services.

* Highly effective communicator with deep appreciation for the role effective communication plays in alignment, teaming, momentum, and success with internal and external stakeholders.

* An understanding of the product development process and an ability to articulate the voice of the customer throughout the lifecycle of the product.

* Keen ability to de-construct complexities and solve problems pro-actively and re-actively in ways that scale.

* Excellence at articulating vision and strategy that meet business goals.

* Superior presentation and communication skills with ability to tailor messages for different audiences; Demonstrated strategic agility. Proven record with strategy creation and execution.

* Customer-focused; has a track record of creating successful products by determining customer needs and challenges and translating those to product and value story for the market.

* Interpersonal Savvy. Outstanding communication skills along with the capacity to work within corporate and entrepreneurial environments.
