Director of Development

* Summary of the main function/purpose of the position:

* The Director of Development is responsible for coordinating the fundraising efforts of The Spring and taking a leading role in the solicitation of annual gifts and major gifts from donors. The Director of Development will collaborate with the President/CEO, the Board of Directors and the Development Team (Development/Events Manager and the Development/Volunteer Coordinator) to implement an annual fundraising strategy that enables The Spring to effectively carry out its mission.

* Principal duties/responsibilities:

* Design, implement and manage an integrated fundraising strategy tied to short-term and long-term financial goals, incorporating the agency's special events, direct mail programs, fundraising campaigns and individual/planned giving.

* Lead efforts to develop annual giving and major gifts recognition programs.

* Cultivate potential donors, upgrade established donors and reclaim lapsed donors.

* In partnership with the CEO and the Board, solicit annual gifts and major gifts.

* Support special events coordinated by the Development Team.

* Participate in community or corporate events to generate new donor contacts.

* Identify new grant funding opportunities.

* Create and manage a planned giving program.

* When appropriate, take lead in grant writing.

* Facilitate the Board of Directors' Development Committee, attend monthly Board meetings and report to the Board on the agency's fundraising activities.

* Collaborate with the Development Team to generate appropriate press releases regarding agency activities.

* Collaborate with the Development Team to ensure the agency's website and social media activities connect The Spring to the community in the best possible way.

* Conduct agency overview presentations to community civic groups, businesses and on behalf of United Way Suncoast.

* Directly supervise the Development/Events Manager and the Development/Volunteer Coordinator and other development department personnel as assigned.

* When agency needs dictate the need for a capital campaign, assist the CEO with creating, implementing and managing the campaign.

* Perform other related duties as assigned by the President & CEO.

III. Accountability: Areas in which the position is accountable/responsible:

Donor Relations: Develops initiatives to raise awareness, generate funds and engage the community.

Budget: Oversees the development department budget.

Records: Accurately maintains development reports in conjunction with the Donor Relations Manager and the Finance Department, as well as statistical data.

Customer Service: Creates goodwill among donors, volunteers, prospects and the public.

* Supervision Responsibility:

Direct supervisory responsibility: Development/Events Manager and the Development/Volunteer Coordinator

* Business-Related Contacts: Donors including corporations, groups and individualsFriends of The Spring

* Community leaders, business leaders and the media

* Board of Directors

* Charitable Foundation personnel including administrators and directors

* Educational and/or equivalence in experience requirements: Specialized or technical educational requirements:Superb verbal communication skills.Experience with individual donor development including identifying, cultivating and securing gifts from major donors.Certification or licensing requirements:

* Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) Preferred

* Ability to interact comfortably and diplomatically in a range of environments and with people from diverse backgrounds including participants, staff, Board members, donors, volunteers and the community at large.

* Ability to organize information and create written content that explains agency's goals and outcomes in an engaging way is critical to this position.

* Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, public relations or related field preferred. Three to five years of fundraising and management experience, preferably in a social services agency.

* Specialized equipment or machines used in the course of the duties of the position. The responsibilities of this position require that the employee be able to talk and hear. The employee usually is required to walk, stand, sit, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally be required to lift up to 25 pounds. * VIII. Physical Demands:

* Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, spreadsheet, fundraising databases (Raiser's Edge preferred), email, internet and presentation software applications.

* Additional Remarks:

* Must have ability to lead with confidence and minimal supervision.

* Requires good communication skills, both written and oral.

* Must have an understanding of domestic violence issues.

* Discretion in dealing with confidential material, flexibility and tolerance for others is required.

* High ethical and professional standards, sound judgement and ability to function independently are required.

* Strong presentation skills are required.

* Must be able to work harmoniously with participants, volunteers, staff and public.

* Often requires an immediate response to an email, text or phone message; will require day, night and weekend hours.

* On-call in an emergency.

* Must have a reliable car, active auto insurance and a valid Florida driver's license.

* Must be able to successfully pass a level II background screening, drug screening and motor vehicle report.
