Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Supervisor that will be based at our Sweeny, TX location. This position will report to the Maintenance Superintendent and will be responsible for overall maintenance activities at both the Sweeny and Freeport, TX sites. The Maintenance Supervisor woks closely with the Texas City Enclave maintenance team to achieve reliability goals within the region.

This position leads the Sweeny/Freeport maintenance execution teams, including direction-setting, personnel development, oversight of work quality, development and implementation of improvements, and measurement of results.

This position is responsible for planning, providing oversight, and coordination of routine and major maintenance activities at the Sweeny and Freeport, TX sites. This position is responsible to act as the primary interface for Operations with the maintenance personnel and engineering by approving, prioritizing, and scheduling work notifications. This position also has primary accountability for ensuring the safety and efficiency of these service personnel while on site.

Essential Functions

  • Acts as a champion of the maintenance execution work process in support of the business goals and safe, quality and reliable maintenance services.
  • Assures and optimizes maintenance execution practices and procedures to achieve cost-effective results and high-quality execution of work with a focus on Safety and Reliability.
  • Leads execution of planned and unplanned unit shutdowns executed by the Maintenance team, including job plans and critical path schedule development, and tracking and closeout activities.
  • Accountable for support and execution of major and minor plant turnarounds (TAR Coordinator on the team runs the effort).
  • Performs regular review of execution quality and efficiency.
  • Responsible for implementation and utilization of disciplined maintenance execution practices and standards.
  • Assists in the development of the maintenance budgets, and in controlling spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.
  • Supports the use of high-quality Maintenance and Reliability Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) along with other input to drive performance and implementation of improvements as appropriate.
  • Approves and prioritizes maintenance work notifications in EAM to ensure that maintenance is properly directed toward the goals of plant reliability and availability in a cost effective, productive manner.
  • Communicates daily with Facility Managers and Shift Supervisors on work priorities and equipment availability.
  • Provides troubleshooting support to operations personnel as needed.
  • Participates in root cause failure analyses and in corrective actions for bad actors.
  • Routinely reviews EAM (CMMS) work backlog with production and maintenance personnel to ensure that all work is appropriately prioritized, planned, scheduled, and executed.
  • Work closely with the maintenance superintendent to level workforce requirements across the TX City Enclave.
  • Obtain quotes and submit requisitions for parts and external maintenance services.
  • Coordinate weekly maintenance planning meetings between Maintenance and Operations.

Qualification Requirements

  1. Minimum 7 years relevant experience in maintenance repairs, engineering and reliability activities, and must have demonstrated strong leadership capabilities.
  2. Key skills include communication, interpersonal relationships, facilitation, influencing, negotiating and the ability to work within a matrix organization.
  3. Successful candidate must be able to develop others and foster diverse relationships throughout the organization.
  4. Must have a detailed understanding of equipment and overall plant manufacturing processes.
  5. Requires familiarity with environmental, safety, and health procedures and issues.
  6. Must have understanding of mechanical and instrument equipment and their maintenance, mechanical integrity, and the inspection process.
  7. Requires familiarity with turnaround execution, maintenance programs, work processes and best practices.
  8. Must have technical competencies of troubleshooting, root cause failure analysis, general computer skills, work planning and estimating.
  9. Must be able to manage multiple priorities, drive issues to completion, and obtain results.
  10. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
