License and Certification Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for a permit issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Education Qualifications: Associate's degree in related field required.

Experience Qualifications: Retired as an officer with at least 20 years of active duty and drawing retirement pay, at least one tour in the following: training command, recruitment, inspection/instructor duty, logistics/supply, and/or administration. Must have an exemplary military record.

Skills Qualifications: Ability to type and perform clerical duties with a high rate of speed and accuracy; ability to challenge and motivate teenagers; ability to communicate with others in an effective and tactful manner; demonstrated skills in organization and problem solving; ability to analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement; excellent oral and written communication skills; and effective human relations skills.

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for conducting the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program in accordance with applicable law, Armed Services, and Cadet Command regulations and policies.

1. Provide classroom instruction.

a. Instruct cadets according to the curriculum that is provided by the respective branch of the Armed Services.

b. Prepare the unit for official visits by dignitaries, tri-annual formal inspections, and mandated visits from higher headquarters.

c. Complete required school tasks and participate in staff meetings, school committees, and student activities.

d. Perform duties required of other teachers in the school.

e. Assist in attaining and improving proficiency in all military and other subjects taught.

f. Improve instruction by staying abreast of new and alternative instructional and motivational techniques.

g. Counsel and mentor students concerning their academic performance as members of the Corps of Cadets.

h. Assist interested students in applying for SROTC scholarships and completing service academy applications.

i. Market the JROTC program in the school and community.

j. Maintain the minimum enrollment of 100 cadets or ten percent of the school's total student enrollment.

2. Maintain records for the school, school district, and respective branch of the Armed Forces.

a. Evaluate cadets, enter grades, maintain equipment records, and oversee financial records.

b. Prepare an annual Master Training Plan, develop a schedule for the year reflecting school activities and JROTC objectives and activities by including cadets in the planning phase, and organize cadets and resources toward the objectives.

c. Perform various administrative tasks.

d. Maintain electronic student records, provide enrollment and other student reports as required by the United States Army Communications Command (USACC), and meet school administrative requirements.

e. Complete logistics tasks and prepare requisitions.

f. Maintain arms and supply operations in accordance with regulatory guidance.

3. Organize extracurricular events and competitions for cadets.

a. Schedule competitive events by contacting other schools and work with requests for color guard and rifle teams.

b. Organize social events and camps for cadets.

c. Plan and coordinate cadet and instructors attendance to the annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) and conduct training and other activities as prescribed by the JCLC commander.

d. Conduct risk assessment to mitigate the possibility of an accident for all activities and observe and enforce Armed Services and school safety guidelines.

e. Plan, organize, and conduct hands-on training that build from instructions in the classroom, including color guard, marksmanship (optional), drill teams, and JROTC social activities such as an annual ball.

f. Supervise cadets after school hours.

4. Participate in professional development.

a. Participate in recurring instructor conferences and other professional development opportunities offered by the district.

b. Meet any continuing education requirements of the state, school district, and USACC.

5. Perform other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk.
