Senior Program Assistant - SYBL and Aquatics Programming

(Casual Recreation Instructor/Official 3)

Note: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individual interested in assisting with the administration and supervision of the SYBL (Sunnyvale Youth Basketball League), Aquatics, and weekend programs and events. The program assistant aids in the planning, administration, and implementation of all programs hosted through the Community Services Division.

Essential Job Functions

(May include, but are not limited to, the following):

  • Assist Community Services Coordinator in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of programs for after school programs, holiday camps, and special events;
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate part-time staff, and assist with recruiting, and developing new staff;
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of program such as preparing activity schedules, and calendars, collect registration information, tabulate participant evaluations, purchasing supplies, maintaining inventory, and keeping records;
  • Interact with parents, caregivers, volunteers, school district, and city staff;
  • Provide excellent customer service, relating to a wide variety of people, situations, and experiences;
  • Assist in planning, organizing and implementing a variety of activities/programs all ages
  • Prepare correspondence, and promotional materials;
  • Ensure the safety, and well-being of program participants;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard and certain tools. The position also requires near and far vision when performing tasks such as inspections and repair work, in reading written work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag, carry and push equipment, tools and supplies up to 50 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations. Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 18 years old;
  • Previous experience working with children in a recreation program or related field;
  • Course work in recreation, education, or related field desirable;
  • Must have availability to work during program hours.

Licenses/Certificates:

Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternative transportation as approved by the appointing authority.
