GAF Logistics Manager

Job Description

We are looking for a Logistics Manager who will be tasked with working with the Plant Manager and Corporate Logistics and Transportation Group to develop and execute the distribution strategy for the plant logistics operations. This individual will be accountable for sites achieving distribution cost goals, service reliability metrics, and volume goals. The position will evaluate and drive improvements in overall safety, along with operational cost effectiveness and efficiency within the Logistics function.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Manage all operational areas of Warehouse and Shipping, Production Planning, Raw Material Receiving, Dispatch, Transportation (Inbound & Outbound), and GAF Fleet Utilization, where applicable.

* Direct the team in meeting or exceeding transportation lane compliance, through proper management of ship and lane caps and the optimized use of low cost carriers and GAF truck fleet, where applicable.

* Ensure consistent shipping, warehouse and transportation processes are documented and implemented at GAF sites (truck loading, rail loading, warehouse improvement process, inventory management, etc.).

* Ensure proper inventory levels of finished goods are maintained to meet customer demand. Coordinate with Production to ensure schedules are met; post inventory accurately and consistently. Complete all receiving of raw materials and supplies.

* Champion strategies for warehouse process improvements. Ensure that logistics staff follows the process, minimizing labor cost, reporting metrics, conducting self-audits and meeting warehouse goals (pallets handled / hour, labor cost per pallet handled, etc.).

* Identify process failures that lead to missed goals and develop and communicate continuous improvement plans to achieve warehouse goals. Implement best practices, facilitate change and create employee ownership of the business processes across the shipping/warehouse functions.

* Ensure an ongoing safe work environment, with training and materials as needed, to sustain an injury-free environment. Coordinate training and staffing for new and existing Logistics employees to ensure facility and department goals are aligned.

* Develop goals and objectives in line with Corporate Logistics goals and objectives. Work effectively as a team member within the Plant team and Corporate Logistics Department. Facilitate relationship development for department staff with Corporate and industry contacts.

* Perform other duties as assigned

Technical knowledge/skills:

* Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite / Google Suites and ERP systems (PS, Maximo, etc.)

* Intermediate proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS-RF)

* Advanced skills in Inventory Management Systems and processes such as FIFO, LIFO, WIP, physical counts, cycle counts and process controls

* Working knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and software, such as web-based Carrier Point (load tendering, freight rates and carrier management).

* Familiar with standard manufacturing concepts, practices and procedures.

General knowledge/skills:

* Ability to manage budgets, for shipping / warehouse and private truck fleet operations, where applicable

* Ability to execute projects within scope, schedule and budget

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Advanced analytical and delegation skills

* Proven leadership skills and department management experience

* Ability to influence, direct and guide cross functional teams

* Excellent interpersonal skills

* Strong attention to detail

* Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

* Ability to work as a team player

Education/Experience

* Bachelor's Degree in Business, Logistics and/or Supply Chain Management

* Minimum 5 years related experience in a high volume manufacturing, distribution, and/or transportation environment

* 2-3 years of supervision/manager experience of direct reports.

* APICS certification preferred
