Stanford University, Department of Pediatrics is seeking an Academic Program Professional 2 to support a new 22q11 Neuropsychiatry Research Awards Program administered through the Stanford Maternal & Child Health Research Institute (MCHRI). The APP2 will be hired within the Department of Pediatrics working under the direction of the Program Faculty Leader as well as MCHRI and the 22q11 neuroscience advisory board to develop, implement, lead and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the 22q11 deletion syndrome neuroscience program. Substantially contribute to program strategy development, long-range planning, and partnership development.

Develop, manage, and lead the 22q11 neuroscience research program by conducting search activities to recruit suitable scientists with expertise ranging from basic stem cell biology to clinical research, data science and alternative medicine, primed to make stride in improving the cognitive-behavioral manifestations in children and adults with 22q11 Deletion Syndrome, short term and long term. This includes selection and outreach to selected physician/scientists with research within the project's programmatic scope. Together with the 22q11 Deletions syndrome advisory board, the director of the Stanford MCHRI 22q11 Deletion syndrome neuroscience program is assigning resources, evaluating scientific progress, and as necessary making recommendations to improve and redirect efforts in order to achieve short and long-term goals.

Duties include:

Applicants are required to submit a cover letter and resume.

  • Facilitating the scientific discourse and collaborative effort between all members of the program, at Stanford University and beyond.
  • Keep up on latest developments in the 22q11 field, e.g. availability of large data in shared databases.
  • Source, collect and analyze data, e.g. about new and ongoing clinical trials, create reports, review and explain trends; keep members of the 22q11 neuroscience program informed about important new developments in the field. Formulate recommendations to achieve the goals of the program and identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research.
  • Plan and organize regularly scheduled 22q11 neuroscience symposia.
  • Function as the liaison between the Stanford 22q11 neuroscience program and other 22q11 public entities, e.g. the 22q11 society.
  • Function as the liaison between the Stanford 22q11 neuroscience program and the private sector (biotech/pharma).
  • Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability.
  • Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.

  • Scientific background on similar or related field in research.
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD).
  • Translational/clinical research experience (conduct, program management, and/or administration of similar research program or activities).


Bachelor's degree and three or more years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.


  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
  • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.
  • Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.


  • For teaching jobs, advanced degree or certification may be required for some programs.
