This position is a member of the Advanced Engineering – Research & Development Group. The Application Engineer will be based out of Spokane, Washington, at the Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood Works facility.

This position is primary responsible for the following:

* Development and Introduction of Kaiser Aluminum Flat Rolled Products into the Aerospace and or Defense Markets

* Provide technical liaison between Kaiser Aluminum and the customer

* Provide support to Kaiser Aluminum Marketing, Sales, and Product Engineering.

The Aerospace & Defense Application Engineer's essential functions include:

Advanced Engineering Group

* Provide Technical Liaison between the Advanced Engineering Group and the Customers

* Provide insight into Customer Wants to help in the development of new Kaiser products

* Support Customer qualification and new product introduction programs

* Search for and identify applicable technological developments

* Provide technical support to Sales, Marketing, and Product Engineering staff.

* Provide technical support to Customer (direct and end users)

* Coordinate with the Technical & Marketing Departments to successfully meet project milestones.

Other

* Support the development of new products with the use of the Select® methodology

* Align projects with the strategic vision of Trentwood Works and Kaiser Aluminum

* Monitor major projects to ensure that milestones are met

* Lead and contribute to assigned teams

* Provide laboratory and factory supporting the development of new Kaiser Products

* Strictly adhere to all plant and corporate safety policies

Job Requirements

EDUCATION BS Metallurgical, Materials, Mechanical engineering or related Field

Desired Complementing Skills and Education

* MS Metallurgical, Materials, Mechanical Engineering or related Field

* Competency in FEA/FEM software to aid in understanding Customer Needs

* Competency in Machining of aluminum products for use in Aerospace or Defense products

EXPERIENCE

This individual will possess:

* Minimum 3 years' experience in Aerospace Application Engineering

* Proven ability to work in a low supervision environment while successfully meeting goals.

* Excellent analytical skills (statistical data analysis experience is a plus).

* Strong PC skills, including Windows, Word, Excel, various data collection and analysis packages.

* Self-sufficiency in data acquisition, analysis, and report writing.

* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills.

* Proven ability to work in teams.

* Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma

* Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
