Key Purpose:

The Senior Project Financial Analyst will provide project-related financial and analytical support to the Project Managers, and in some instances, become the project manager on designated projects. The Senior Project Financial Analyst will serve as a liaison between Veristat’s functional groups and Finance, as well as assist in recommending, developing, and incorporating process improvements in both the revenue recognition and change order processes.

Primary Duties + Responsibility:

  • Serve as a key contact point for interpretation and investigation of financial results in assigned area for the assigned Project Manager(s)
  • Prepare, reconcile, analyze, and report project revenue and associated metrics
  • Perform review on all actual and planned resources and report discrepancies to Project Manager(s)
  • Prepare project close out reconciliations including issue identification and escalation, if necessary
  • Produce financial and other business analyses, interpret, and investigate data for operations for assigned projects and contracts
  • Coordinate with project manager(s) to actively identify and build/scope change orders, monitor project status including resourcing and budget tracking; identify scope changes in advance from forecasting out units by task for the life of the project, to include comparing monthly recognized actuals to the burn rate to identify possible change orders early-on
  • Assist in development of regular project financial status reports
  • Record revenue each month for Unit and Milestone contracts
  • Review and QC revenue each month for Unit and hourly contracts, to create a more efficient process working with Project Managers to complete the revenue recognition grids monthly
  • Provide key leadership, support and mentoring to Project Financial Analysts
  • Working with Finance team members, identify and solve for process improvement opportunities in revenue recognition, change orders, forecasting, and resource management; therein, track process improvements through both a narrative and a policy process guide
  • Prepare and communicate monthly project estimates to clients
  • Perform forecasting by line item from to start to finish the full life cycle of all projects (Full life of the project timeline forecasting)
  • Monitor all subcontractor and vendors contracts and work as contact point for external and internal resource providers
  • Attend project meetings, as needed, to support Project Manager(s) and understanding/concurrence of project status, potential issues and the accuracy of the forecast
  • Monitor the overall health of assigned projects including but not limited to revenues, gross profit, receivables, and unbilled amounts as well as project close outs and reconciliations
  • Work with department heads to analyze the revenue forecast of each project and how the forecast impacts the departments’ financial outlook
  • Complete ad hoc analysis requests as requested by management and executives
  • Review and update financial processes as needed to ensure written processes are aligned with current systems and business needs

Experience & Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance required
  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience, with at least 2-3 years of experience in project financial analysis within a CRO required
  • Prior experience in project analysis and ASC 606 revenue recognition required
  • Prior experience in portfolio financial management and forecasting required
  • Ability to serve as a peer mentor and influence without authority required
  • Ability to serve as a consultant to internal business partners, and provide financially sound recommendations on project finances
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • Understanding of Professional Service Administration systems; 3+ years of experience required
  • Excellent financial, communication, and interpersonal skills as well as an elevated level of personal motivation to achieve
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential and sensitive data
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills, to manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • The ability to perform in depth project analysis utilizing various sources of information to help make a support the decision-making process
  • Understands the importance of meeting deliverable timelines set by the client, the project team and corporate
  • Understands the underlying principles of revenue recognition and the relationship between Revenue, Backlog, Work in process and Invoicing
