About the Role

The Staff Computational Biologist will be a key scientific leader responsible for directing and executing research and development of early, noninvasive detection technology for various cancer types. As a senior member of the team, you will use your strong foundations in cancer biology, machine learning, and statistics to motivate hypotheses associated with early detection of cancer and execute on them. You will work closely with and lead the work of machine learning scientists, molecular biologists, and other computational biologists on a collaborative team to drive the development of computational models that will ultimately be used in the clinic.

Your contribution:

  • Lead the development of computation models for early cancer detection from plasma proteomic and cell-free DNA data, serving as a key thought-leader on the computational science team.
  • Motivate research hypotheses and subsequently plan, scope, and execute associated research with a talented team of computational scientists.
  • Leverage, develop, and apply machine-learning and statistical models.
  • Remain at the forefront of research developments in computational methods for early cancer detection from plasma proteomic and cell-free DNA.
  • Analyze and interpret data from best in class proteomics and NGS assays.
  • Work closely with molecular biologists to collaboratively iterate on experiments in the wet lab.

Your background, perspective and experience:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant, quantitative field such computational biology, computer science, physics, math, and engineering.
  • 5+ years post-PhD experience applying computational techniques for biological discovery and product development, ideally in industry.
  • Experience in developing, applying, and evaluating machine learning and statistical algorithms.
  • Strong track record of research publications or industrial experience in computational cancer biology, machine learning, and statistics.
  • Proficiency in a general-purpose programming language: Python, R, Java, C, C++, etc
  • Strong quantitative reasoning and statistical analysis skills, with a demonstrated ability to apply them effectively to relevant scientific problems.
  • Experience in the analysis of high-throughput, quantitative technologies in proteomics, genomics, and epigenomics(e.g. MS, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate to both scientific and broader audiences.
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior scientists, with an ability to work on a cross-functional team (with both computational and experimental scientists).
  • A passion for innovation and demonstrated initiative in tackling new areas of research
