Political Research Associates (PRA) is a national nonprofit devoted to supporting movements that are building a more just and inclusive democratic society. By exposing patriarchal and racist movements, PRA works in strategic partnership with movement leaders, organizations, and journalists to defend and advance a vision for feminist, multiracial democracy in the context of creeping authoritarianism in the U.S. and abroad. Through convenings and collaborations that breach silos and bring people together, PRA provides political education that seeds strategy widely across sectors critical to secure an inclusionary practice of “we the people.” Core to PRA’s mission is providing high-quality research and analysis that is longitudinal, multi-sectoral, and capable of separating signal from noise — identifying significant trend lines, innovations, and shifts in anti-democratic power building strategies. Who You Are: Communications Coordinator

You are a talented, early career communications professional who believes in the power of research to inform social justice advocacy. You are committed to informing winning strategies to fight the right, block White nationalism, theocracy, and authoritarianism and advance reproductive justice and LGBTQI justice.

This position is based in our Somerville, Massachusetts office. The entire PRA staff is currently working remotely due to COVID-19-related precautions until September 2020 at the earliest, but working from the office is required for this department under ordinary circumstances. Modest relocation assistance will be provided to cover moving costs if needed.

This position will be supervised by the Communications Manager. The Communications Assistant will be part of a four-person communications team, including the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief.

The Communications Coordinator at Political Research Associates plays four important roles:

  • Creation, implementation and monitoring of a robust social media strategy to increase PRA’s reach, build new audiences, and draw attention to critical threats and opportunities.
  • Strategic design and development of new media deliverables including, but not limited to, video, webinars, podcasts, and interactive online experiences to feature PRA research content in innovative and engaging ways.
  • Maintenance, optimization, and updating of the PRA's website (Drupal CMS).
  • Support of the Communications Team and broader organization through limited administrative tasks and event support.

Responsibilities

Social Media

  • Establish and implement a social media calendar identifying audiences, topics, stories and distribution channels.
  • Create, update, and maintain content and community engagement across all PRA social media platforms – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Generate original content for social media platforms to drive traffic to PRA’s website, promote articles that PRA publishes, and highlight PRA research findings and team.
  • Track and collect data that evaluates communications activities including social media, email and website analytics, creating measurement reports and offering recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure reliability, consistency, clarity and relevance in the use of data, including use of infographics to illustrate concepts and trends
  • Actively grow followers and engagement for organizational social accounts and engage social media followers as partners and allies for amplifying content.
  • Stay up to date with latest social media best practices, digital security, and technologies.

New Media

  • Strategic design and development of new media deliverables including, but not limited to, video, webinars, podcasts, and interactive online experiences to feature PRA research content in innovative and engaging ways.
  • Co-create communications calendars integrating the creation, release, and promotion of new media deliverables, including, but not limited to, audio and/or visual and interactive web products.
  • Work across the organization to generate content ideas and create work plans.
  • Produce and edit audiovisual and graphic materials, specifically short videos and produced audio segments.
  • Research and conduct outreach to potential new media partners, including local and national media outlets and podcast networks.
  • Interface with freelance contractors in the creation of digital media deliverables.

Website

  • Prepare online articles and other website content for publishing, to be reviewed by Communications Manager.
  • Identify and procure stock photos for online publishing.
  • Prepare monthly analytics reports with actionable recommendations for user experience.
  • Work with PRA’s web development contractor to monitor website to ensure it is up-to-date, bug-free, and optimized for search engines.

Team/Organization Support

  • Inventory maintenance and order fulfillment for merchandise and promotional materials.
  • Compiling materials for press and funder packets.
  • Event support, including running tech for PRA-hosted webinars, video conferences, speaking engagements, and briefings run over Zoom.
