The Seattle office of Perkins Coie has an immediate opening for an Accounting Assistant. This position will provide accounting and administrative assistance to the Senior Partner Payroll and Tax & Investment Accountants. The Accounting Assistant will assist with Professional Corporation (PC) and firm affiliates bookkeeping including payroll, payroll taxes, accounts payable, tax deposits, and preparation and distribution of financial reports. Specific duties will be to: create payroll deductions and earnings import file spreadsheets and upload to the Payroll system; examine pre-check payroll for accuracy, including verification of appropriate deductions; responsible for sending payroll direct deposit files, net pay allocation & tax impound spreadsheets to the bank; research and respond professionally to questions regarding PC accounts payable (partner expense reports); audit and code expenses to appropriate General Ledger accounts and ensure adherence to applicable Firm and IRS policies and procedures; create journal entries to post partner expense reports in the General Ledger system; generate and distribute Form-1099's for the Professional Corporations, W-2c's for Payroll, and W-2s for International Accounting; transmit data to the IRS by generating and mailing Form 1096's; prepare and process check requests and deposits; log and update checks and deposit information on checking activity ledger spreadsheets; create journal entries to book checks and deposits in the General Ledger; perform basic filing, scanning, and archiving duties on an ongoing basis; assist with mass mailings including Partner Financial Statements and Schedule K-1's; create new folders for stock certificates, warrants, and promissory notes and log them in the stock inventory spreadsheets; and complete other projects as assigned.

This position requires familiarity with basic finance/accounting principles and procedures and an ability to set and prioritize deadlines and adjust to workload fluctuations. Candidates must be accurate, organized, thorough, acutely attentive to details, and quick learners. Must possess the ability to express self effectively, both orally and in writing. The ideal candidate will be fluent in MS Outlook, Word and Excel applications, with advanced Excel skills preferred. The ability to respond to questions in a timely manner and convey difficult information with clarity and professionalism is essential. A strong teamwork attitude is expected. Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger is preferred. General knowledge of accounting (standard payroll processes and procedures, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable) and general understanding of standard databases is preferred. This position requires two to four years of relevant bookkeeping and administrative experience or equivalent. Payroll specific experience and familiarity with ADP is beneficial. Law firm or professional services firm experience a plus.
