* Bachelor's degree

* 5+ years of experience in a clinical Cytogenetics/FISH laboratory with progressive responsibility preferred.

* 3+ years of experience managing staff, protocols, policies and procedures.

* Must be ASCP certified in cytogenetics

Preferred qualifications:

* Technical background in FISH

* Proven success increasing and maintaining client and employee satisfaction

* Proven experience in process improvement within the laboratory function

* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to function independently in a matrixed organization

* Ability to make sound decisions under stressful situations

* Demonstrated success in leading team members to reach goals and objectives

* Demonstrated success in meeting high performance standards with regard to work quality and quantity

* Interpersonal skills to effectively communication with all employees and clients

* Computer skills including Microsoft Office to accomplish tasks

* Possess organizational skills and attention to detail

* Ability to work independently and within a team environment

* Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards

* Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual

This is a management position responsible for the strategic oversight and leadership direction; oversees several business functions or divisions; provides leadership to department supervisor(s) and staff; will manage first-line supervisor(s) and/or professional staff. Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency standards, including CAP, CLIA, NYSDOH, and OSHA while working closely with the Medical Director and other staff pathologists.


* Supervise lab operations, with strong emphasis on accurate and timely delivery of patient results

* Perform competency assessments, providing continuing education, and maintaining positive morale of laboratory staff

* Attend staff and management meetings and overseeing daily lab operations

* Take responsibility for laboratory performance criteria including:

* Delivering patient laboratory results within specified TAT

* Monitoring and ensuring acceptable repeat and failure rates

* Achieving pre-determined assay reagent and supply costs and maintaining updated costs

* Assuring productivity levels in the labs are achieved and maintained

* Monitor daily workflow in the lab, planning / scheduling for adequate assay coverage, and troubleshooting / escalating problems, as necessary

* Monitor time tracking system for employees and ensuring attendance expectations are being met
