RECRUITMENT RANGE: $15,600.00 - $15,600.00


  • This position is time-limited, grant funded, part-time, 20 hours per week.*

Funding for this position expires on September 30, 2020.

The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, Cleveland County, seeks an individual to serve in the position of Deputy Clerk in the legal system of North Carolina by processing, controlling and maintaining documentation of domestic violence court cases. Deputy Clerks perform specialized clerical and administrative work in a Clerk of Superior Court office that involves interacting with the public, processing initial filings, continuances, judgments, and maintaining case documentation.

As a Domestic Violence Clerk Coordinator, you may perform a variety of duties such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Process Child Protective Services reports each day; make copies and prepare to fax.
  • Act as liaison with County Victim Services Unit, local police department(s), Interact, County Child Protective Services (DHHS), and other governmental agencies.
  • Pull court files when needed for counter or courtroom; and determine if paperwork needs to be forwarded to CPS.
  • Establish and maintain domestic violence cases.
  • Assist victims in completing information sheet for Victim Services.
  • Key in motions and calendar dates in computer system.
  • Track data on number of cases and victims served.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge of: NC general statutes; policies and procedures related to domestic violence matters; local judicial district procedures; and general office/clerical procedures.

Skills in: basic math; active listening; effectively communicating both verbally and in writing; and fast, accurate data entry.

Ability to: interact diplomatically with a diverse group of people; multi-task; adjust to unexpected events; meet deadlines; organize and manage files; work independently; maintain confidentiality as required by law; and provide procedural information without giving legal advice.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 18 years of age. Cleveland County residents preferred.

Management prefers applicants with professional experience working in a courthouse or law office.
