Job summary

The Private Brands Intelligence team applies Machine Learning, Causal Inference, and Economic Methodologies to derive actionable insights about the complex economy of Amazon’s retail business and to develop algorithms to drive strategic business decisions and improve operations. We are an interdisciplinary team of Economists, Engineers, and Scientists building day one solutions using cutting-edge technology, to solve some of the toughest business problems for Amazon Private Brands (APB).

The PBI team is seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager. In this role you will be responsible for scoping and delivering large projects across Amazon Private Brands organization and our partners. Responsibilities include collection of business and systems requirements from internal and external customers, writing specifications, driving project schedules from design to release, and managing the production launch. You will lead and coordinate design/implementation efforts between internal teams and partners. You will be expected to make appropriate trade-offs to optimize time-to-market, clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional and remote project teams

The right candidate will possess a strong program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading large projects (Data Compliance is a big plus) and will have a well-rounded technical background in current technologies relevant to building distributed, scalable systems and Machine Learning models. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, deal with ambiguity and competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. As a Principal TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for scoping and delivering large projects end-to-end. Responsibilities include collection of business and systems requirements from internal and external customers including scientists, engineerings and product managers, writing specifications, driving project schedules from design to release, and managing the production launch. You will lead and coordinate design/implementation efforts between teams to develop optimal solutions. You will be expected to make appropriate tradeoffs to optimize time-to-market, clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional and remote project teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • 7+ years of technical program management experience
  • Basic understanding of Machine Learning.

Preffered Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 10+ years of technical program/project management experience
  • Experience managing large scale software development projects
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver projects with multiple dependencies, constraints, deadlines
  • Knowledge of Big Data, Compliance or equivalent fields.
  • Expertise in agile software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including agile estimation and planning, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish credibility with technical and non-technical stakeholders including executive staff
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to solve complex problems through research and analysis
