Job summary

Do you wake up in the morning excited about what cloud computing can do for customers of all shapes and sizes? Do you have a knack for translating complex technologies into great stories? Are you an expert on cloud technologies? Do you have a passion for helping customers understand how cloud technologies can revolutionize their businesses? Are you one of those rare technologists as comfortable working with engineering teams, as you are talking with a CEO? The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Office of the CTO is hiring!

We’re looking for an excellent technologist, writer and creative thinker who can become fluent in AWS’s communication style, tone, and voice and ultimately be able to translate that into the voice of the CTO. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, a collaborative working style, and ability to articulate the most complex technical concepts in terms that make sense to customers, press, and the public. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in the development and delivery of AWS’s most important messages and stories, while gaining insights into the day-to-day operations of a C-suite office. The ideal candidate comes from a software and/or infrastructure background, but is also imaginative, with an unmet need to tell stories. The candidate must have the technical depth to work together with principle and distinguished engineers, the vision to amplify their efforts through building a program, and have an unparalleled work ethic to deliver results.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Play a critical role in the evolution of the company message
  • Lead messaging and content strategy from ideation and delivery, to measurement and evaluation

  • Developing and executing programs to raise the bar on technical storytelling writing across AWS product marketing, communications, and product management teams
  • Delivering high-impact messaging, storylines, and written content for the AWS platform
  • Collaborate closely with other AWS executive, public relations, analyst relations, sales, and marketing teams to coordinate in their efforts to communicate AWS’s most important messages.

Preferred locations: San Francisco, CA/ Los Angeles, CA/ Seattle, WA/ Palo Alto, CA/ Arlington, VA/ New York, NY or other locations in the US where Amazon has a presence will be considered.

  • 3+ years of experience in a messaging-focused role (including elements like researching, writing, editing, and product storytelling)
  • Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product
  • Experience with end-to-end product delivery
  • Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product
  • Experience overseeing roadmap strategy and definition

Preffered Qualifications

  • Experience architecting and deploying AWS solutions in a production environment
  • AWS Solution Architect Professional or Associate Certification
  • Strong background in messaging and executive speech support
  • Experience in crafting compelling positioning and marketing content
  • Experience executing complex, high-profile writing and messaging projects (preferably at a high-growth technology company)
  • Experience communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple teams, as well as internal and external audiences.
  • Exceptional executive poise and presence to customers and internal leadership, along with strategic and analytical thinking are essential.
