General Summary

ONE YEAR POSITION:

This is a full-time, one-year temporary faculty position, from September 19, 2018 to June 14, 2019. This one year position has a 40- to 42-credit (or its equivalent) course load.

SALARY:

The College will provide a one academic year salary of $42,032 and benefits as allowed by the state.

Essential Tasks

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Teaching:

* Teach a range of business technology classes specifically geared toward students in the IBEST program (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training). Course topics include: beginning keyboarding, beginning 10-key, introductory Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), Windows 10, intermediate Microsoft Word and Outlook, customer service, fundamentals of office management, and career readiness.

* Familiarity with Canvas course development and administration

* Teach a schedule that includes day (12:00-4:30PM) and online courses.

* Advise students in developing and monitoring their academic plans.

* Participate in departmental and cross-disciplinary curriculum development and delivery that is responsive to changing technologies, and is responsive to a diverse student population.

* Service: Engage in department, division, and college initiatives; participate in shared governance; promote the college's values, and perform other contracted duties (for example, advising, community outreach) as required.

* Professional development: Maintain competence in teaching and the discipline through professional development activities.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's Degree in business, business technology or closely related field OR concurrent enrollment in a bachelor's degree program; AND

* Two years' experience working with the IBEST teaching model, in a collaborative teaching environment; AND

* Two years' experience developing courses using integrated publishing software such as SNAP or SAM.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Demonstrated skills and experience in business outreach

* Proficient in a language(s) in addition to English.

THE DEPARTMENT:

The BSTEC Department at Highline College offers multiple certificates (including IBEST) and AAS degrees in Business Technology. Students, faculty, and staff span a diverse range of languages, nationalities and ethnicities, socio-economic levels, identities, and educational experiences.
