We are seeking a mid-level Construction Manager experienced in providing construction and program management services to join our team in Savannah, GA. This position will primarily lead various heavy civil and marine structural projects to support the Georgia Ports Authority’s ongoing Capital Improvements Program. Moffatt & Nichol is the Engineer of Record for assigned projects and provides program management and construction administration services to oversee projects from design through construction.

This position requires strong communication skills to work with the owner, engineers, and contractors to successfully lead projects from the completion of design through construction. Detailed responsibilities include: leading construction progress meetings, conducting field observations, proactive problem solving, schedule and quality control monitoring, reporting, and budget management.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Successfully manage projects ranging in size from <$1M to $20M, actively communicate with the project team, and work to minimize project risks that may compromise safety, schedule, budget, or quality
  • Proactively monitor contractor and field activities daily to identify and resolve issues in advance that could negatively impact the project
  • Act as the primary project interface with the client, project engineer, contractor, utility companies, and other agencies
  • Effectively communicate (verbal and written) information and document project activities utilizing the appropriate medium
  • Coordinate and lead construction and field meetings with the contractor and client
  • Coordinate with multiple departments and agencies to ensure smooth project progression with minimal impact to operations and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate with engineers to discuss and resolve field construction issues and propose practical solutions
  • Lead the project team in monitoring construction and contractor operations for conformance with the contract, safety, schedule, quality control, proactive change management, pay applications, closeout, and facilitate record drawings in accordance with construction documents
  • Work with our document and project controls specialist to track and maintain project information
  • Some assigned projects may have federal grant funding which will require additional review and collection of supporting documents to ensure grant compliance
  • Assist with management and technical review of submittals and RFI’s
  • Provide support to the engineering team during contractor prequalification or bid efforts, including constructability reviews, pre-bid meetings, contract procurement, etc.
  • Frequent contact with contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project inspections

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in a construction management role managing complex projects
  • Field requirements are 5 days per week. Typical hours are from 8 AM to 5 PM, however hours may vary due to weather, daylight, or construction matters. Occasional weekends may be required
  • Experience working with ports or heavy civil projects desired
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Newforma or other project database software desired
  • Availability to travel. Position is based out of the Savannah, GA office, but projects may require travel to other GPA locations
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Physical demands:

Work is generally performed in an office or client office setting. Use of standard office equipment will be required. Ability to traverse an active construction site safely and effectively while carrying equipment.
