Position Summary Information

Purpose

The Biology Department at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit Catholic university, seeks to fill a 1-year fixed-term Adjunct Lecturer position (non-tenure-track), starting in the 2018-2019 academic year. We seek an experienced candidate to teach undergraduate Human Anatomy, and an upper- division course for Biology majors and for students preparing for graduate and certificate programs in allied health care. The annual course load is six courses over three academic quarters, which usually corresponds to one lecture and two lab sections per quarter.

Salary $49,680-$52,620, depending on teaching experience; benefits eligible. This salary range corresponds to a six-course teaching load. Basic Qualifications

Demonstrated previous success teaching human anatomy at the 4-year-university level required. Ph.D. in Biology or a related biomedical field or M.D. required.

Preferred Qualifications Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

A. Teaching lecture and laboratory sections of BIOL 104 (Human Anatomy) in a manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively. Syllabi for these courses are available, although the instructor can customize to their own preferences.

B. Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with these courses, including

a. Conducting all assigned class and laboratory meetings in a timely and prepared manner.

b. Assigning and evaluating written work, projects, and exams that align with course learning objectives.

c. Holding weekly office hours on campus.

d. Assigning and submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Registrar's office by the designated deadline.

e. Administering numerical and narrative course evaluations to students in all courses

f. Fulfilling other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or by the Chair of the Biology Department.
