SALARY: $34,957.17 - $42,677.43 Annually;

plus additional cash of $6149.26 annually.

We are accepting applications to fill a vacancy in Santa Barbara. The current vacancy is in the General Services Department.

THE POSITION: Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties that include U.S. mail processing, interoffice courier service, surplus property transportation, and other related duties as assigned.

Examples of Duties

* Provides daily countywide courier service to, from, and between county worksites, including transporting and delivering U.S. mail, interoffice mail, legal documents, medical records, drug and pharmacy supplies, biological specimens and live cultures, bio-hazardous materials, currency, and small office equipment.

* Collects, sorts, and weighs all outgoing first class mail; prepares mail for transport to external mailing processing company; provides United Parcel Service shipping duties for county departments.

* Unloads trucks using pallet jack; delivers boxes of paper; assist departments with moving; disassembles and reassembles some modular office furniture.

* Collects, transports, stores, and disposes of surplus departmental office furniture, equipment, and supplies; post items for sale on website surplus.

* Responds to telephone, counter, and departmental inquiries regarding mail rates, pick-up and delivery schedules, and additional Mail Center services.

Employment Standards

* One year of clerical, mailroom, storekeeping, shipping and receiving, or delivery experience; or,

* One year of a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Additional Requirements:

* Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.Maintain Driver's License during the course of employment.

* Independent travel throughout the county will be required.

* Incumbents are frequently required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds and to pull heavy items on pallet jacks.

Knowledge of: basic recordkeeping and arithmetic, safe lifting and carrying practices; and safe driving rules and practices.

Ability to: make basic arithmetical computations; complete simple forms; read, interpret, and carry out written and oral instructions; write legibly; safely lift and carry office supplies, equipment, and furniture; observe safe work and driving practices; plan, organize, and prioritize work; memorize names and locations; communicate clearly and tactfully; and work independently; use a computer; learn software programs. Supplemental Information

SELECTION PROCESS

* Application Review: Review applications and supplemental questionnaire to determine those applicants who meet the employment standards.

* Supplemental Questionnaire Ranking: Responses to the required supplemental questionnaire will be evaluated and scored. Candidates' final score and rank on the employment list will be determined by their responses to the supplemental questionnaire. This process may be eliminated if there are fewer than eleven qualified candidates.

Applicants must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the supplemental questionnaire ranking to be placed on an employment list. An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established, all candidates will receive written notice of their score on the exam(s), rank on the employment list, and exact duration of the employment list.

Conditional Job Offer: Once on a conditional offer of employment has been made, candidate will be required to successfully complete a background check, which includes a conviction history check, and satisfactory reference checks. Appointee will be subject to a post-offer medical evaluation or examination. The appointee must satisfactorily complete a probationary period.
