Alcohol Licensing and Compliance Coordinator

Under the direction of the Food and Beverage Director assures compliance with state and local alcohol beverage and business licensing requirements. Acts as Snowbird's liaison with The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Salt Lake County Business License Dept., Utah Restaurant Association, Salt Lake Area Restaurant Association, Utah Hospitality Association, State Bureau of Investigation Alcohol Enforcement Team, and UDABC Advisory Board. Responsible for issues relating to Snowbird's alcohol beverage & business licenses & permits. Assists in training staff regarding Utah's alcohol beverage laws.

Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility

* Responsible for renewing resort alcoholic beverage licenses on timely basis. Applies for new state & county licenses as needed.

* Researches answers to questions of alcohol law and reports back to Snowbird F&B Director and restaurant/bar managers.

* Applies for new business names with Division of Corporations as needed.

* Acts as Snowbird's liaison to Dept. of Alcohol Beverage Control.

* Attends monthly Commission Meetings, writes and distributes minutes of action taken at meetings.

* Attends quarterly meetings of the DABC Advisory Board and reports on any pending action that may affect Snowbird operations. Provides written input regarding issues on behalf of Snowbird when appropriate.

* Coordinates required background checks and DABC training when new managers are hired. Communicates new and existing manager information to Snowbird's DABC Compliance Specialist.

* Attends monthly safety meetings, writes and distributes summary of meetings to F&B Dir. and Assistant Directors. Presents various Safety Topics at F&B Staff Meetings and submits summary to Public Safety. Acts as F&B's representative at the Resort Safety Meetings.

* Makes sure to hit deadlines for license renewals: Hotel License by Sept. 30th. Applies for and obtains appropriate alcohol permits for resort's special events. Assists Snowbird Executive Assistant in reviewing Salt Lake County Business Licenses and Health Dept. Permits before submission for renewal. Assures all licenses, permits, and signs are distributed and posted according to required laws and rules

* Monitors DABC proposed rules or changes to existing rules that could positively or negatively affect Snowbird's operations. Provides input accordingly.

* Provides forms for obtaining background check; delivers completed form and fee to DABC. Coordinates appointment for manager training at the DABC and provides manager with fee for class. Keeps master list of background checks and DABC management training.

* Develops and updates resort liquor law manuals: bars, restaurants, on-premise beer, Conference Services/Group Sales. Conducts Alcohol Server Training classes. Conducts liquor law training sessions as requested by managers. Posts new licenses inside outlets.

* Assists bar and restaurant managers with training and orientating staff regarding liquor law compliance. Assists in observing operations for compliance with liquor laws and provides feedback to managers and Food & Beverage Director.

* Follows Legislative Session Jan-March and stays alert to any legislation that could positively or negatively affect Snowbird's operations.

* Responsible for ordering, receipt and storage of operating supplies.

* Responsible for making and delivering Corporate charge cards to Accounts Receivable Manager as requested. (minimal)

* Responsible for assets: cash receipts from TIPS seminars; resort license files, corporate charge cards, office equipment.

* Other duties as assigned. Reviews Advertising work, proofs menus, runs reports and analyses, attends Cliff Staff Meeting. Serves on various resort committees/industry Task Force committees. May require need for speaking at corporate or public meetings. Composes and distribute memos to disseminate information department-wide and company-wide as necessary.


* Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.

* Works with licensing authorities, vendors, outside maintenance, related hospitality directors.

Education & Experience

* 2-4 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence. Preferably in hospitality industry, some experience in communications/marketing desirable

* College degree in related field preferred. Additional related work experience may be substituted for education.

* Knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel programs.

Specific Requirements

* Must be 21 years of age

* Demonstrates commitment to guest satisfaction, positive employee and company relations

* Demonstrates history of integrity in all business dealings

* Demonstrates the ability to become certified as trainer for approved Alcohol Server Training program

* Certification as a Notary a plus.

Skills & Knowledge

* Requires some exercise of judgement within policy guidelines and without supervisory approval. Additionally, requires problem solving and initiation of activities within job description and have a strong understanding of other Snowbird operations.

Work Schedule

* General office hours Monday-Friday; some evening or weekend hours may be necessary.

Working Conditions

* Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

* Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

* Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.

* Requires sitting for work at desk, computer, typewriter, addressograph.

* Requires ability to retrieve work from shared laser printer and copy machine located in adjacent offices.

* Requires standing at license files for extended periods of time.

* Requires ability to travel to alcohol licensed locations within several different lodges at Snowbird Resort.

* Requires ability to travel to meetings and licensing departments in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas as needed

* May experience stress from communicating perceived negative answers relating to questions on Utah's alcohol laws to customers and co-workers

* May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
