We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic, results-oriented Software Development Manager to help us deliver a world-class books ingestion portal.

You have a solid customer focus and advocate for their needs in product development, roadmap prioritization, requirements and design reviews, and in operational support. You have a solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile development processes. You are able to handle multiple, competing priorities and remove roadblocks and obstacles. As a technology owner, you understand how to successfully develop and release new features while also keeping systems healthy and handling support issues/bug reports. You pave the way for innovation and know how to think big and invent and simplify. This role requires creative engineering and collaboration with your team. As a technical leader, you understand the technology your team owns, are willing to dive deep in to technical details, and can provide feedback and technical guidance to your team on design and architecture decisions. You collaborate with technical leaders and senior developers across the org to build scalable, distributed systems.

On the Publisher Experience team at Amazon SLO, we develop innovative software to power enterprise level publishing solutions for both physical and digital distribution at Amazon. Our team builds the systems used by publishers world-wide to publish and sell their books globally. We strive to create efficient, intuitive, and highly scalable solutions to enable publishers of every size to manage their business with Amazon. We obsess over readers and how our software contributes to the reading experience.

Our Location:

Amazon SLO joined Amazon in 2005 and is located in beautiful San Luis Obispo, on the California Central Coast, 3 hours by car and 30 minutes by plane to the Bay Area or LA. With year-round sun and a Mediterranean climate, SLO has an abundance of outdoor activities from surfing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle-boarding to hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Basic Qualifications

· 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams

· Experience partnering with product OR program management teams

· 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers

· 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

Preffered Qualifications

· Hands-on technical expertise; prior experience as a software developer or software development manager preferred

· Experience presenting complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences including tech and non-tech peers

· Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

· Ability to navigate ambiguity and delivery incrementally to the right direction

· A deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, and a track record of shipping software on time

· Experience designing software architectures for scalability, reliability, and performance
