Job summary

Do you love books and reading? In the Books org, we believe reading is essential for a healthy society; our mission is to inspire readers by making it easy to read more and get more out of reading. Everyone on our team has a meaningful impact on product features, new directions in publishing, growing book selection, and delighting readers. We are looking for software engineers who want to work on enterprise-scale, distributed, user-facing systems.

Key job responsibilities

Although you may specialize in the back-end, middle tier, or front-end, you are comfortable working on the full stack and solving problems at any level. You have a sound understanding of computer science and a passion to make a profound impact for our publishers and readers. You leverage your technical skills in areas such as algorithms, object-oriented design, distributed systems, cloud computing, and data processing to build scalable, maintainable, and extensible solutions. As a member of our team, you participate fully in the agile software development cycle, both working with your peers to build software and leading the design and implementation of features and systems, creating new software and refactoring existing code. You collaborate with diverse business and technical partners to shape our technology. You are the voice of publishers, driving technological innovation to create an unparalleled content ingestion experience.

Our Team:

On the Publisher Experience team at Amazon SLO, we develop innovative software to power enterprise level publishing solutions for both physical and digital distribution at Amazon. Our team builds the systems used by publishers world-wide to publish and sell their books globally. We strive to create efficient, intuitive, and highly scalable solutions to enable publishers of every size to manage their business with Amazon. We obsess over readers and how our software contributes to the reading experience.

Our Location:

Amazon SLO joined Amazon in 2005 and is located in beautiful San Luis Obispo, on the California Central Coast, 3 hours by car and 30 minutes by plane to the Bay Area or LA. With year-round sun and a Mediterranean climate, SLO has an abundance of outdoor activities from surfing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle-boarding to hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Unless it involves snow, you can do it here. Looking for something more relaxed? How about yoga in the park, wine tasting, or an outdoor concert? Basic Qualifications

· Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

· Bachelor's degree in computer science related fields OR 1+ years equivalent experience in software development

Preffered Qualifications

· Familiarity with functional programming languages including Scheme, Clojure, or Scala.

· Familiarity with Linux.

· Familiarity with software testing methodologies and writing testable software.

·

· Ablity adapt to new development environments and changing business requirements.

· Create reliable/maintainable code, and find creative and scalable solutions to hard problems.

· The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both written and orally.
